Controller Support
PLEASE... Why in 2017 are big developers such as ID niglecting to realise that a vast number of gamers HATE the WASD system??? Bought this game for £19.99, being that I am a very proud owner of DOOM, and was shocked to discover that I am forced to use my Steam controller (which is a disappointment in itself!)

I beg you please to adress this issue, ID.

Thank you :-D

This is a competitive FPS game. It's designed to be played with a mouse and keyboard.
If you're planning on playing with a controller please do everyone a favour and stay out of the team game modes. :steamfacepalm:

Quake Champions is doing more than ever to help new players get into the game and start to learn at least the basics that can allow them to enjoy the game and even become competetive.

I'm sorry you'll miss your pad, but not including gamepad support is an intentional part of this.
I've only ever heard of one gamepad player who was reasonable at Quake on a joypad, GEN1US : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zffq-1G_x_E, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwcOP8CVR5I and he was no match for kb/m players still.

I've seen a couple of players who liked to use the d-pad instead of wasd and the mouse to aim still, but at less than 0.001% of quake live players it was not likely to continue to get custom support.

If you really insist on using a joypad you could always use xpadder or similar.

Have a look at this guy.. no need to use WASD.. use whatever you like.. this is an example of someone that uses SDF + mouse2 for movement: :)

You could always go full tox. mouse1 to move forward, mouse2 to move back, z to move left, x to move right and C to shoot.

Did you need help setting up your controller ? let me know I been using a controller since the first open beta so i figured out a lot since then. I play with a lot of the top players and am apart of NC (New Classic ) and I get much respect for using a controller.

The amount of people asking for controller support just baffles me, i used to play nothing but consoles for years but since moving to pc if theres one thing iv learned is that theres certain games you just dont play with a controller and are not designed to be played with one, Quake is literally one of those games.

Quake has has been both on console and PC. Again the right settings and a pro controller you be surprised. Check my screenshots of quake champions.

A decade of CoD's sales and popularity domination and devs catering to console audiences distorted people's perspectives.

There was a time when almost everyone was content with the M&KB combo in PC shooters and it also allowed for much more competitive play and things you simply can't pull off with a gamepad.

Yep. People these days legit think that fps can be played on controller eventhough it can't in reality. Only reason it got bit more popular on consoles was because they had to alter the core genre lol. Inorder to get fps in the state where it is currently that call of duty and whatever ♥♥♥♥.. they had to dumb it down alot. No more speed, no more accuracy, no more punishing gameplay, no more complexity, no more deep skilceiling mechanics.. They had to dumb it down because fps is a genre that won't work on controllers otherwise.

Question how you know a genre doesn't work on a device? On PC you can play slowpaced call of duties and whatever, on PC you can also play fastpaced classic FPS like duke3d or play quake on 1700ups speed without any issues. On a pad you can't play the latter because the pad can't keep up with the pace due to not being suitable for high octane gameplay :)
