Tutorial: How to Enable Proper Ultrawide (21:9) FoV
Hey, I was checking out the GOG demo and I noticed that while this does support ultrawide in the graphics menu, the actual gameplay uses a bad field of view that cuts off the top and bottom of the screen.

Here's the game zoomed out all the way at 2560x1440 (16:9):

You can plainly see that while the image looks wider, you don't get any extra scenery on the sides and the top and bottom are cut off. So by playing in a higher and wider resolution, you're actually seeing less than you would by playing in 16:9.

Thankfully there's a relatively simple fix! Turns out that Shadow Tactics (the dev's previous game) functions the same way in regards to ultrawide, and the same fix for that also works for Desperados 3. Halfway down the Widescreen Gaming Forum page for Shadow Tactics there are instructions for hex editing a certain file to enable the proper FoV.

For those of you who haven't used a hex editor before, I'll walk you through it.

1. Download a hex editor (I use HxD in this tutorial)
2. Open the "Assembly-CSharp.dll" file in your hex editor. The file is located in "Desperados 3 Demo\Desperados III_Data\Managed".
3. Hit Ctrl+R to open the Replace window and click on the Hex-values tab.
4. Copy and paste 39 8E E3 3F into the "Search for:" box and do the same with 60 E5 18 40 in the "Replace with:" box.
5. Change "Search direction" to All and click Replace all.
6. Close the Replace window and hit Ctrl+S to save the file (HxD automatically backs up the original file so you don't have to worry about that).
7. Enjoy Desperados 3 with a proper FoV!

Finally, here's the game running at the correct FoV in 21:9 after the fix has been applied (the FPS difference between this and the earlier screenshots is due to me enabling 200% resolution scale):

Here[community.pcgamingwiki.com] is my patcher that removes the zoom limitations at any resolution wider than 16:9. Either solution seems to be good for the purpose.

How is it possible they didn't optimize the game for 21:9 screens? Year is 2020, stuff like this should be normal

What I do not get is that they implement wider formats with Vert- when this game is produced on unity, an engine that supports ultrawide and wider really fine.

I mean, it is no big thing to hex edit or make a regedit, but I simply hate it when devs chose to go with cutting of screen estate instead of adding it horizontally.

Pls devs, fix this with release, your engine supports it and I do not see any reason why you do not change a line of text to put this in order. Other devs release it correctly as well!

Depends. If the cutscenes are hardcoded, then no.

If they just use ingame scenes, maybe.

My entire game play area is a small rectangle in the middle of the screen - about 20% of the total screen real estate is used. What's up with that?
