Follow these steps:
1. launch steam in big picture
2. click settings (the gear on the top right)
3. find the section named: controller
4. in said section, click controller settings
5. put a checkmark at the: xbox configuration support item
6. close big picture mode again
7. you can now launch the game normally and use your controller

the settings from big picture are sticky so its only required to configure it once. unless you re-install steam it shouldnt be neccesary to go in there again. (unless you actually use big picture.)

I have tried using that big picture mode solution but some buttons on the controller regularly lose function during gameplay and needs to restart the game to fix. Its just great while you are going after a nm and you realized that attack button stopped working hah.

about the attack button not working, I've seen that before and it was usually caused by the mouse cursor being over the minimap. The mouse cursor can also mess with the palette at the bottom where most ppl put their buffs, if the cursor is over a buff you won't be able to move it with the d-pad.

Rule of thumb here: make sure that cursor is tucked away in a corner of the screen somewhere and not over anything important lol.

Big picture did not solve my problem, using Logitech controller.

one of the reason why i never bought this game they did not implement a full controller support out of the box.

Seems like this game is abondened. months have passed yet there s still no in game controller support and not a single update released. it such an obvious hit and run cash grab

This is supposed to be the correct way to make any controllers works in this game

My xbox 360/ds4 controllers works perfectly

Perhaps you all (except the pirates) need to launch steam as administrator, who knows

Nothing works, refunded just because of this. Its impossible to play with the clunky keyboard controls, would somehow make do if at least you can work the mouse. The "fix" isnt a proper fix, the key overlays using custom mapping is annoying and doesnt look native. There's no sensitivity control over x and y axis too. Its rather unbelievable that even at this point this hasn't been fixed.

I just tried that but no matter where i put the mouse pointer the attack button doesnt work. The only fix for me seems to be restarting the game unfortunately.
