.......... are you actually serious? that's just... I don't even know what to say to that... what the hell bandai... just.... what the hell? I've been running with max draw distance since I started and I remember this stupid golem being a pain in the ass to find. To think the draw distance would reduce the spawn rate... completely bonkers lol...
Dead serious, the Massive Tusks and Void Piercers were also a huge PITA until I dropped the setting down. I'm guessing it's a side effect of it being a console port?
There is a mob with a similar designation that I actually found there so the quest might just be buggy and is asking for the wrong mob.
Do you by chance still know where the quest target is supposed to be?
Sorry I've been distracted the last couple days, but if you still need to know where he is, I've taken a screenshot

if he's not there when you get to it and there's no npc party around, kill a bunch of things and he'll spawn. If there *is* a party of npc's don't bother and try again some other time, they probably killed him already.
and for everyone else having trouble with this: Apparently there is a whole bunch of them in the desert later on in the game too.
Up to now it only counted the mob name for me rather than the specific region. - I'm still on the main story though.
If you meant a different map within the same general region, then yes they would still count, but trying to get credit for a rustoria plains quest by killing things in the desert likely will *not* work if the game is consistent in any way for how this works.
