Here is the fix to controller not working

1. make sure your controller is working correctly in general
2. run steam as administrator
3. go to your steam settings and find controller, and go to general settings and enable xbox controller (try big picture mode too), and then restart steam and game
4. make sure your controller is set to X mode, for some it's on the back of your controller for others it might be in the middle top, or even in driver's program if there is any

Hey guys, there is very few guides still regarding getting the controller fixed, so I started out with this guide and tinkered with all the settings etc. until I finally made it work in the game. I am using a PS4 controller wired with the USB cable to the PC. Please run steam AS ADMINISTRATOR (this is very important as at least for me it won't work without running with ADMIn rights) Now in controller settings I got everything ticked both xbox and ps4 and generic controller configurator. For legit copies it should work with your controller now. For cracked copies of the game you can add SAO as Non-Steam game, then right click the game in your library select edit steam controller configurator, then just browse for a controller config it will recommend a few for SAO game that will work for you just like the PS4 version of the game. Once you do these should work fine, at least I managed to get it working after a day of messing about :D Now lets try the game finally.....

Thank you so much. Not for playing a cracked copy of this but because I had another game that wouldnt register my controller. Ran it as a non steam game and it worked perfectly. ^_^

I didn't have to run as administrator, I didn't have to launch the game from big picture, the fix didn't seem to work until I realized I had my in-game overlay turned off, this fixed it for me.

settings in steam, hit controller, general controller settings, and check xbox configuration support, bam dune, youre welcome, its working fine now with my xbox 1 elite controller and the icons are showing in game now

For all of those who are wondering how to get your controller to work for this game still just open it up in big picture mode by pressing the home key on your xbox one or xbox 360 controller. You're welcome.

I spent hours trying various methods posted in different places, got my Xbox 360 controller to work, then it stopped working on the next launch. After over an hour of trying various things again, I found that the controller won't work if you have Fraps running when you launch the game. Launch it after the game starts if you want to use it. I hope this helps someone avoid all the trouble I went through.

on steam page of hollow realization. controller is partial controller support NOT full controller support. I try both free version and steam version. the free version doesn't work. the steam version with xbox enable. the button for walking is perfectly fine but other button is not working. and don't bother asking my controller having problem because I'm playing right now Accel World vs SAO and my xbox controller pecfectly fine

Where did you download the Setup from?
