It's a fictive country based on Eastern-Europe. Since it's a fairly small nation I would guess at Georgia or Moldova. :Bleaty:

It's a fictional country, presumably an East-Slavic one.

I thought it was pretty obvious that it was Russia. What other country had czars?

Also, Nick from the mailroom is a reference to Nicholas II (the last Russian czar), and Rasputin is another historical figure also from Russia.

However, Nicholas II's legacy is complicated but nowadays usually revered in Russia, he is recognized as a martyr by the church. While his in-game counterpart is a straight up villain.

now that i think about this,... Yes it means Russia I didnt think it while play but now months after i finished the game.... But in what events are they refering? What war that destroyed their family e.t.c?

Maligula violently suppressing peaceful protests on the czar's orders is most likely a reference to this:

And the czar being deposed thereafter is of course this:

I really don't see how it could have been based on a nation the size of Russia if one dam exlpoding and flooding an earea completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the nation. :theworld:
Also, the title of the nations leader is Gzar, not Czar.

You're not supposed to take it literally but it's clearly inspired by Russia. Here's another thing I just remembered. The jewelled eggs in the final level? Yeah, that's a Russian royalty thing too.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faberg%C3%A9_egg
The most famous are his 52 "Imperial" eggs, 46 of which survive, made for the Russian Tsars Alexander III and Nicholas II as Easter gifts for their wives and mothers.
Dude, those eggs were popular all over the world. My mother owns two and we're Norwegian.
If Grulovia was Russia in the 80s or 90s then it would have to have been China or the US that destroyed them. That makes no sense since the world is still pretty stable in the games. :Morry:

E: Mikhail from the first game is from Russia.
"Mikhail hails from Russia, where they have much different bears."

You're clearly struggling with the concept of "inspired by", so I have no further comment.

It seems to be based around Eastern Europe, though the fact the names of Grulovian characters are somewhat Latin-ish (arguably, they are mostly Italian-sounding), I would say the inspiration for the country itself is one in the Balkans, possibly Croatia or Montenegro (arguably a perfect match, given the implied size of Grulovia and Montenegro's real size). Or maybe it's based on Romania with more "eastward" flavour.

I mean... Bulgaria had czars too, up to WW2. But otherwise, I can see that.
