Cool. Just glad to see it's out there. HDR is really really great for this game. This is why I love PC. I can do what I want lol.
I was sceptical but I went ahead and tried it and for the small amount of effort needed the mod it works very well with Psychonauts 2 transforming the quite flat appearance in SDR. There isnt blooming just a well saturated almost 3D presentation that really enhances the character models.
The impact for those with HDR TVs/monitors is such that the application of this mod should be stickied for this game.
You seem to think this is just the "Fake HDR" option from Reshade. This is actual HDR. The Mod has the Heat Maps to prove it:) Also it's better than most HDR options included in Games because you can actually manage Grey Levels and Saturation.
It completely transforms games. I play a lot of Warhammer Inquisitor. The level of Clarity you get because things look more layered because of the contrast is great.
It's more than what the modder is telling me. I'm actually using it on my 49"LG in multiple games. I have seen HDR before. Also, If you watch the video you can actually see them show where the Developers actually messed up HDR by crushing Black. Artistically, the Devs might have a vision in mind but that doesn't mean I agree with it:)
That, said. I just appreciate having something better than the awful "Fake HDR" option in Reshade.
For cases like this where a game that plays great and looks great in HDR but where the dev dropped the ball by excluding PC then the Special K mod is next best - some might call it fake HDR but its much better than no HDR.
But fake HDR is more where a film claims HDR but has barely any WCG or high nits levels.
The black crush in the video was comparing the options in the mod not the game itself which had no HDR of course - I use the pass-through option for this game.
Not all in-game HDR is great - I couldnt get any Horizon Zero Dawn cal setting to be good in all scenes - but I hope no HDR in this game is not another sign of the rise of console support and the decline of PC support.
Something is going on with Microsoft because the Ascent also had HDR on Consoles but not on PC. The common denominator: Game Pass
- The Ascent had no DLSS and RT and it takes 2 weeks longer to release patches
- Myst also had no DLSS and non working FSR and no VR
- and no HDR here
I can see a worrying trend with Game Pass even if people still assume PC > console, and when my sub runs out I'm going back to waiting for patches and price drops which always come eventually after release.
