How well does this game play in multiplayer?

Me and my friend might get this game, but we would like to know what gamemodes multiplayer has to offer and if it is easy to get a match going if you have the players for it. I hope I don't have to port forward anything.

you just host a match and tell your friend the room code to join. this is mainly a room code multiplayer game anyway. public matches are hit and miss.

It's basically like advance wars... you dont "level up", you focus on bases / unit-makers to capture and where to position your units. Capture your friend's stuff or kill their main character (who is on the field as a "super unit" with an ability that charges).

Never had any issues with this kind of multiplayer.

Multiplayer works fine, with options of vs skirmishes and/or co-op campaigns. There's matchmaking services, private lobbies, and so on. Fairly intuitive, in that I managed to figure it out first try and there's guides for those who are uncertain. Large amount of user-generated content too.
