Thank you for reporting this issue, we've notified the developers about this problem.
Sorry for the inconvenience !
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!
Ruined my save file too. Game breaking issue.
There's a room to the right in the jail area of New Sereen that has 2 gold pieces. There is only one entrance that the guards also go in and out of periodically. I've been stuck in the room for 15 minutes with allies trying to come in while guards try to leave.
Very disappointing.
Happened to me too, but you can wiggle your way out most of the time. It just takes patience.
You know what bugs me though. They just released a DLC this year so you think they could have taken a bit of time to, I don't know, address this problem.
It's not even essential NPCs that are the issue. It's just the random wandering filler NPCs that tend to block the way. I'm not a game programmer so I don't know how hard it would be, but you think just removing the NPC's movement path or just outright removing the NPC would fix this.
So, since clearly the Devs don't care about this problem and clearly since it's still a problem that happens I took it upon myself to look up mods and see if any of them could offer fixes. There is some promise, but untested on my behalf since again, I stopped playing.
If you head over to Nexusmods and check the mod section there are two which look like they can help.
Increase party size (or decrease it): A mod that allows you to talk to a companion and remove them from the party anywhere. This would allow you to remove party members that are blocking paths (since clearly those NPCs aren't going to move if you ask them).
Map Anywhere: A mod that allows you to access the fast travel map just about anywhere. Meaning if you get stuck you can just pull that out and fast travel out of it. Seems like a bit of a hassle, but it's better than fighting with NPCs for half an hour.
I would provide links, but I feel like this post would be removed since "Greedfall was not designed to support mods" bull that get's spewed. If anyone wants to try these and report what happens, it would be appreciated. Otherwise, I might be forced to play this game again and do it myself so we can FINALLY have some closure to this issue.
