GreedFall crash - c0000005 - Access violation

Dears,

I'm facing an issue with the game GREEDFALL.

I'm playing with no mod and once I arrive to certains location, the game crash. The locations are all time the same (several ones like one fire camp, or the fantom camp related to the Kurt quest). What is suprising is that for example, I already went to the fire camp and once I returned, the game crash. Which means that the area was once correctly loaded without error.

What I already try:
- Re-Installt the game
- Check the integrity of the files via STEAM
- Delete the defaut.profile64 file and graphicconfig.txt
- Try some disabling of the vsync, enable/disable of vsync with Geforce control pannel
- Force the vsync to 60hz but the game force the value to 59 -> I put the file in read-only but it does not fix the issue
- Many many many other tests like set to the lowest the graphic parameters and everything that is imaginable

My config is the following one:
GeForce GTX 750 ti
AMD A8-3850
8 Go of RAM memory
DirectX 12
Windows 10
Generally speaking, I don't face any lag, it seems that my config is sufficient for the game but some locations crash.

Log summary error:

ExceptionCode: c0000005 (Access violation)

Can you please help me to solve this issue? Don't hesitate to tell me in order to have further information about it.

Yes indeed I already search this area but the code c0000005 is a too large topic and I don't want to spend several days to fix this issue without being sure that this will actually work.

That is why I hope a dev will answer this topic and/or if another player has already facing this issue. From what I saw on the forum, it seems that some other player are facing the same issue than me.

Hope you have luck with it here.. its not a game problem so your best option would be Microsoft forums or other related tech forums. usually members on those forums are more comprehensive with their analysis and solutions.

also try searching: memtest86

they usually have memory testing software that is free to run. I'd run it, and see if it prompts error codes.

Indeed actually it seems To come from my card. I will try to proper re-install the driver and check if the issue is still there.

Access errors are usually driver issues in my experience.

Similar problem, though I played the win10 store version. I've tried everything I can do. I gave up.

this has worked for me in some games. might work here. click on windows start then run then enter "cmd". in the command prompt window, change folders to the game folder. then in the command prompt window enter greedfall.exe. sometimes , depending on the game, and where the error is, error msgs appear when the game crashes.

Lol I changed my configuration to pass from GEforce GTX 750 ti to RTX 3060 and the problem remain the same. The save seems then corrupted, that is not at all an issue related to the driver (I obvisouly checked this at first time where the bug happened). Can someone do anything ? Any tips to fix it ? Some save restore tips or anything ?

if the save is corrupted. you're out of luck. There's no solution for fixing a save file other than replaying from a past save point and creating a new save file.

secondly. the error code (as previously discussed) is not from the game.

1)run Window's Memory Diagnostic [rare cases could be your physical ram, not video card ram)

2)get an error log report from your 'DXdiag'.. I'd search google for this since its different on all operating systems. Posting this on tech forums will help.

3)temporarily shut down all unnecessary programs running in the background ie: antivirus etc.

this may just be a conflict with a driver, program, or a windows permissions.

and finally.. Devs don't visit this forum anymore. They've abandoned this forum a long time ago.

try the following. it might work. works on some other games.

open a windows cmd window.
in the cmd window change folders to the game folder.
run greedfall.exe
sometimes the missing libraries error msgs appear.

Honestly, I tested already a lot of fix and nothing worked. Regarding the error code, if it does not come from the game then I don't understand. As I said, in changed my configuration because my old GPU was a bit old, now that I have a new one, with updated driver, the issues remains the same. That's why I guess that the issue come from the save itself which seems corrupted.

I also try cmd-> cd/"greedfall repertory" and launch the game directly from the cmd but nothing happens when the game crash, no error appear :/

I had the game running on a 10 yr old desktop running win 10. that pc had a 750ti. bought a new desktop running win 10 and installed the game. ran without any tweaks. upgraded to win 11 yesterday. game still runs without any tweaks.

I have never seen a one fix for c0000005. reininstalling windows was one that worked for some.

perhaps try reinstalling some of the more recent visual basic libraries:

probably 2015, 2017, 2019. run as administrator and then repair.

thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I already re-install windows (11 this time) but it seems that the issue does not come from windows or driver card.

The issue come every time at the same location, is like a corrupted area related to the save. It crashes every time i enter in the "area". For example a fire camp, i can approach in every side from it, it always crashes

Had the same problem, I had to reload to a save before I did Kurt's quest. Not sure if it's the cause.
