If I accept a companion's quest can I not get rid of them from my party until I finish their quest?
I accepted Vasco's quest and it lead to me a beached wreckage but in order to proceed I have to defeat this boss and I guess I am way underpowered. I carried on with the main quest but then I realised I cant take Vasco out of my party. Is this because I need to finish that side quest first? If so, is there a way I can delay that quest?

If you go to your house in one of the 3 major cities or camp at a campfire you can change party members. To change at campfire you need to press R to call them all there.
Companion quest cannot affect dismissal as far as i know :LIS_poker_face:

I can normally do it but Vasco has a lock symbol next to his name :/

No, after you accept the quest, you must finish it

This game is great but this is a massive flaw.

I'd recommend to try to use firearms against the boss. Or explosives to remove its armor, then fury attacks to kill it, while parrying to gain adrenaline (for a melee-focused build).

A companion quest must be completed, if it was accepted. Vasco is a quite capable companion and the Nauts do not have conflicts with the other factions, i.e. taking him with you does not hurt the story or gameplay.
Just in case, if you have not accepted a companion quest, you can delay it almost as long as you want (there is one exception, where the quest fails and something usually undesirable happens), but it is strongly recommended to complete them first.

Well I'm anxious as the boss in question is one of the special bosses you need to collect the dudes notes for. And now every character is giving me a quest of their own but I cant do them because I'm "busy" but at this rate I'm always going to be busy because as of now there is no way I am going to beat this monster. Hopefully there is no time limit to do other characters quests?

The quest "The Prince's Secret" is the only time limit I can think of.

And certain companion's cooperation during a faction-related quest might depend on completing their quest line first.

Just buy/craft a ton of ammo/traps and cheese the boss out if you can't melee it. Remember if you time your blocks correctly the boss can not kill you
