We had another user today who had the opposite problem he only got "A better world" and missed " a big step towards peace".
He finally got it by lowering his reputation with two of the factions before the end. He also elected Duncan as high king.
I suspect its mainly the faction reputation.
Friendly with all 5 possible factions, gave the crown to Dunncan.
So its the reputation. Duncan seems not to matter then if you read my last past.
Only real difference was the faction reputation.
No wonder i didn't get ending i wanted, I didn't find way to raise reputation of Coin Guard.
But then, it feels weird if i could get All for one, one for all! achievement when Reputation with Coin Guard is "suspicious"
I nearing the end and i have "Friendly" with every faction except "Teleme" which are at "nice".
I will try for the "a better world" ending and see if its possible at that reputation level.
If i get " a big step toward peace" you most likely need "friendly" with all factions.
Not that much, just a change in the ending dialog. Its still a "good" ending just with some more undertones since the conflicts between the factions has not entirely been resolved.
BTW just got the "A better world" and its indeed the faction reputation.
You need to be at "friendly" with all 5 major factions at the end of the game.
(Congregation of Merchants does not count).
Thanks for the information
