About the Coin Guard
At first I assumed the Coin Guard was just mercenary guild within the Merchant Congregation, which I thought would kind of suit them, having a guild-like organization rather than a "official" national force, and I didn't give too much importance to having their barracks in the three cities, as I thought they were just reused assets (like the palaces).

But then, as the story progressed, I realized that is not the case. I haven't yet finished Kurt's side story, but it seems obvious that the Coin Guard actually works for the three continental factions, and plays a major role in all three; they pretty much seem to be the only military force of New Serene, you regularly encounter them working with The Ordo Luminis, and, even if the Alliance's Gunners are a separate national force, the guard seems to be the bulk of their forces.

Of course a mercenary company working for three sides is perfectly plausible, even if two of them are at war (althought this last could be a troublesome issue, if not for the countries, for the guards themselves); but the Coin Guard doesn't seem to be just a simple mercenary company, rather it seems to take care of all New Serene guard duty, patrolling the city, the sorrounding area, even running security in the palace and having one of it's memebers as bodyguard and master of arms of the royal family in the old continent. And, while, as I said, I haven't advanced too much in it's story-line, since the Blue-Silver regiment seems to be part of the Guard, I assume so do the Red-Sun and the alliances one (can't remember the name).

The in-game codex talks about places and people, but doesn't say anything about factions, so, is there more information to the Coin Guard and it's relationship to the different factions? About factions in general? If not, any theories about how exactly this works?

It is beyond the scope of the game, which puts the focus on Teer Fradee and the major faction's combined hope to find a cure for the malichor (which has plagued the nations for years already) and to use the colony as a new center for diplomacy with regard to resolving conflicts between the warring factions - Theleme vs. Bridge Alliance, but also the BA trying to take over the Congregation of Merchants peacefully.

For "theories", more lore about the old continent (Gacane) and the size of the "nations" would need to be made available somewhere as to measure and understand the scale of the war between Theleme and BA, especially their dependency on mercenaries on the old continent. Without such details it remains a mystery. It becomes obvious that the Coin Guard are hired by the three major factions in this game, but player only gets to see a tiny portion of "Serene" as part of the old continent, none of the other factions' capitals like Al Saad. I mean, the factions barely keep the balance on Teer Fradee and try to get along with eachother, and the game is not about either one invading the new colony with larger forces as to take a large scale war to the island.

About the faction symbols. The red sun is Theleme's and unrelated to the Coin Guard.
