color and quality of items ... what do they exactly mean?

Didn't find anything to this yet, so does anybody know...

1. what the different colors (background) of items mean exactly (beside they are special/better oc ^^). Or has a sorted list of which color is better than the others?

And 2. what "quality" on items means exactly? My thought is, that it's like an overall indicator, based on some stats of the item, to quickly compare which weapon/gear "play in the same league" ... could that be? :)

Basically better quality = higher stats. Grey>Green>Blue>Purple>Yellow from lowest to highest.

Yellow only means that the item is unique. Sure, it has higher stats than normal, but it can be outclassed by a customized purple piece of gear. In other words, do not sell them. Stash them in the box and collect as many of them as you can, for fun.

Some purple items >>>> yellow items. So yes, gold/yellow means unique (and several locked to PC only, like all the faction rewards).
I found the purple item marked 100 the best overall

Seconded. Yellow unique items are only unique because they have a unique model (e.g. Blade of the Far East, Yataghan, Great Scythe) and they are not necessarily better than purple items. In fact, in many cases they are worse stat-wise but look cooler.

You have a wide choice of items though, so use what ultimately comes down to your preference. There is a single achievement for getting a yellow item (not even equipping it), so you just might run a round wearing blue items if it fits your build.
