Do you have to pick specific dialogue options for romance?

So I just heard that in order to romance characters you might have to pick a very specific dialogue option during each of their quests, which I didn't know about since I'd already completed 2 (Vasco and Kurt) of my companions questlines and received the option to romance them without knowingly picking the "right" choices. I can't find much information online so I'm just wondering if it's true?

I knew I was going to romance Siora when I started the game but after completing her quests, I don't get the same heart option with her that I get with the other 2. I just assumed that there was perhaps more to do with her before I can get to that point but after doing a couple more of the main quests there's still nothing.

There's already a bunch of bugs/bad design and not having some kind of indication next to the dialogue options that lead to relationship progression is pretty annoying.

Her actual romance will show up near the end of the game provided you picked the right dialogue choices leading up to the ending. You aren't getting none til before the suicide mission :P

Yes it's all about choosing the "correct" dialogue choices. There is a convo after each of their companion missions, and you have to choose the right responses in order to trigger the romance. Miss even 1 of the 3 correct responses and you jacked yourself out of a romance with that companion, I found this out on my first time through so wasn't able to romance anyone. Unfortunately, unlike some other RPG games (Dragon Age, Mass Effect, SWTOR prime examples) Greedfall doesn't indicate what option is the correct one to trigger the romance.

I suggest finding a guide that tells what dialogue choices to make. Just Google 'Greedfall Romance Guide'

True, but that still doesn't tell you the correct one until after you've chosen, unlike other RPG's that will usually have a heart icon next to the romance/flirt option. I personally think it's quicker to just find a guide and bookmark it. Faster than constant reloading until you find the correct answer.

yes. i used a guide because my first play i messed up both kurt and vasco romances so i just started over and used a guide. then you can get both to where they are at the final question and save. then you can answer kurt and romance him and get the scene. then i reloaded and answered vasco with correct answer and got to see vasco romance scene. i obtained both achieves and then just decided who to keep as romance through rest of game. so now i have kurt as my partner and am playing with him to the end.

I guess I'm just gonna have to load up a previous save after all and redo some things, thankfully it's only about 1hr-1hr30mins of gameplay I need to complete again. Next time I'll definitely pay more attention to things and perhaps use a guide when I'm not 100% sure about something lol

You will know the right answer if you get a Reputation +2 after your choice. It's always like this: One answer nets you Reputation -1 (or -2 ???), another nets you nothing and the other Rep +2. So save before talking and go and choose each one until you get Rep +2.

I'm not sure if the -2 answer will lock you out of the romance, but with both Kurt and Vasco I chose the neutral answer in at least one conversation since I wasn't planning on romancing them, and still got the romance option, so you can actually miss at least one of them (I did give the +2 answer in other conversations though, so you may still need to get some answers "right")

I think you can romance them as long as you get their standing to "friendly." This allows for some leeway in answering "incorrectly" since you can get them to friendly after just 2 of their 3 personal quests.
