Apart from that, all factions are racially diverse and woman are treated the same as men, so you will encounter them as warriors, faction leaders, scientists and so on.
None of the factions ingame are portraited overly idealistic, each one has it good and bad sides and while topics like colonization and exploitation of native population are present, its not preachy.
Exactly, when people bash this game i get the feelings they dont like that this game is not SJW narrative driven.
Most "woke" thing here is that you can play as striaght or gay.
Npc in greedfall are more akin to normal people, rarely anything is mentioned about sex here and Just like in normal life, no one gives a rat ass about your sex, gender or identity.
Suprise, Suprise when there is war on continent, plague and power struggle on Island people have more pressing concerns than sex change or who slept with whom lol
this exactly. and it is a very good game in my opinion. i play the female character and she is voiced great. i don't know about the males. I find the voice acting overall quite good. i haven't noticed too many bad lip sync issues to be honest but i don't tend to stare at everyone mouths. i have seen no lip sync issues with my main character at all.
The V/A of male De Sardet is amazing. Got to agree on the lip sync. It doesn't seem bad to me, but I also don't stare at people's mouths. The teeth are more of an issue imo, but I got used to them too lmao.
Yet the SJW "press" still bash it. Shouldnt that make devs and publishers think? It's like you are trying to placate political "activists" whose "jobs" are to aggressively push policies, not to compromise, or to clickbait with rage filled articles, not to write as objective as posisble (they didnt even play half the game in the first place). Well, I guess bribing them work, but how much and how long can it keep their fanatical zeal in check, considering there are much bigger money behind them?
As a leftist I find its commentary on colonialism/imperialism to be spot on, if maybe a bit too derivative and not really saying anything new, though it's mostly brave new ground in the aRPG field. I'm also impressed they chose to make the Natives much whiter than the people occupying their land as it points out the often-missed fact that race and religion are meaningless things existing solely to justify unequal distribution of power. It would've been even braver had they made the imperialists all black and the natives solid white to better hammer home that point, but they probably would've taken too much heat from BOTH sides of the political spectrum.
And finally, if you actually think going woke is gonna get a major company go broke... pahahaha.
Well its not completely regardless of gender.
Kurt & Aphra are straight only romances, Siora and Vasco can be romanced by either player gender.
Everybody isnt there hoping to solve a catastrophe at home but for profit/geopolitical reason.
The natives arent a bunch of tree huggers living in greenpeace's wet dream but a society with their own successes and failings. They live that way because that's how they develop, not because of super secret world building plot element.
Same for the colonisers, who arent divided into: the crazies (inquisitor, mad scientists) and the run-of-the-mill politician (try their best to solve the problem without rocking the status quo) but into much more school of thoughts.
This game basically say the colonisers' way of life are all bad near the end, not just their colonisation but their whole way of life. While other two games dont pass such judgement as they stick to the "why" not the "must have"
There are several black npcs among the natives, it's just hard to see them beyond their face paint.
This game's depiction of colonisation is heavy on the caricarture side. Not a bad thing, but not really spot on.
