You can never get more users than your "potential users". Make sure to improve quality of your instances to increase potential users.
Hope it helps!
Best,
Jonas
Have you upgraded quality on your instances with the Lead Dev? If yes, what is your "Potential Users"? It's show under the stats view.
It all depends on the amount of users you have. You probably want to upgrade continuously.
to make a profit you have to concentrate on three things:
1) Improve the efficiency of a feature. That way you can handle more online customers with the same amount of servers and consequently more registered users at the same cost.
2) Buy bigger servers. The price per CU drops significantly and you have less expenses for the same amount of CU.
3) Research and install a better framework. Although you need a lot of money to install a much better framework it surely pays off because it drops the CU required for every online user.
Have a look at this video (it's in german, the english version will be available presently).

Don't trust the numbers, most people cheat anyway.
it's true that there are some mods which give you unlimited money or happy employees. However, to successfully play a game in Startup Company you don't need any cheats as I've proven for example in this video:

It took me a while to figure everything out especially because there was no tutorial around. But this will change maybe rather soon so that new players can get started with more success and fun.

When you are ready, set the landing page, for example, to live and then work on the quality of the login while the project's quality (which increases max possible users) allows you to gather new subscribers. When that is maxed out, you should have enough saved to work on its efficiency. Get that to max, and then switch out live with the landing page to work on the landing page's efficiency.
Am I missunderstanding anything? This is counterintuitive, because it can make a lot of money without actually having any working purpose. The key is having a lot of quality so that you can have a lot of users, and getting the most efficient framework/servers so that the cost per user is minimal. Then working on efficiency will further reduce cost/user.
although its not explicitly written the landing page contains various functionalities but on a very basic level. Take the login system for example: Of course you can login (otherwise, what would be the point of a social medium) but you can't upload your picture or create a profile. And the security is very low. This is why you add a new feature.
