Its been a while since I tried software inc, but for some reason the game confused me a bit. This one, I was just able to fall right into it and figure things out. Ill have to go back and see if software inc is still confusing for me but in terms if discovering things out of the box, i would say this one seemed easier based off my memory of SI. but then again, i tried software inc right around the time it went open to check out sooo maybe things have changed for the better

I think Software inc offers more content, but for some reason I like this game more

I guess in a way, the game also feels familiar to similar games like the Game Dev games and what not.

Softare Inc is more serious

Software Inc is probably the only game/software development game that someone at Microsoft would probably play.

Software Inc is really in-depth.

I have only just started playing Startup Company and it is very 'arcadey' - very much based on unlocking stuff.

Software Inc has item unlocking, but it is based on dates - ie unlocking new computers 10 years down the line, etc.

Startup Company to me feels like Game Dev Tycoon - which I don't think is a good thing. The reason being is that Software Incs biggest rival is probably Mad Games Tycoon.

Software Inc concentrates a lot on serious software (O/S, Office Software, applications) and Mad Games Tycoon is purely game development.

I am wondering if Startup Company can rival either of them at present - but it is early days.

I certainly am not warming to the tier system and unlocking basic items - it all feels a bit too 'mobile gaming' for my liking.

In fact, I am likely to get a refund on Startup Company as the Tier system and unlocking really is not my thing at all and seems a bit too bizarre.

Having played Software Inc, Game Dev Tycoon, and now this (Startup Company), I have to say i like all three.

For me, this game is currently tied for 1st or 2nd place with Software Inc (with Game Dev Tycoon being 3rd place)

Current Reason I like this game over Software Inc
Open Ended (no end date) (+++)
Still early (a lot of potential) (++)
Being able to delagate (spelling? - being lazy)

Current reason for being Tied:
Both games supporting Mods (++)

... have to run, will finish when i get back home...

Software Inc., offers more content and more indepth but for more of a casual experience I recommend Mad Games Tycoon. I don't really care for this game, it's more oriented around contracts and plug systems are weird as hell.

I will get Software Inc as well. I am not interested in Game Development so I will stay away from the others.

I'd prefer to have a more realistic experience (with more depth) than a casual game.

Do you see any pros for Software Inc over this game so far?

On the other hand Software Inc is only for Software products right? but this game you can make any type of products, because making only software turns me off a little.

Thanks you pretty much answered the question I had in mind, more indepth than casual or arcade so I guess Software Inc would be a better choice for me?

The probelm with Software Inc is that the last updates seemed to have broken mods, and also a lot of mod makers seemed to have stopped support. So playing can get a bit boring in vanilla, or you risk playing mods that no longer work.

The other problem with Software Inc is that it seems to be forever unfinished. I think they could have just released the game a year or two ago. The graphics are not all that great either.
Dreamsurfer Aug 11, 2017 @ 6:24pm
For those of you who have both. Is it worth getting both? I mean, are the games different enough? I will pass on the game tycoons because I prefer working on "serious" software. This is the type of Business I am used to running and I like to simulate such business.

Mods I can live without but they are nice.

Software Inc has a steep learning curve. Honestly even though I own it I dislike the graphics style immensely. Therefore it sits unplayed. I've played about 6 hours of this offline and it is very much fun.

You can develop all kinds of software and products in Software Inc. It's not tied to only software or contracts. You can extend this to your own Operating System, and with mods even to producing your own hardware and computers. Plus you can build server rooms and rent them out to other companies, print CDs with your software and sell these or distribute your software via your own online store.
I can understand that some people don't like the artstyle, but the lowpoly style in Software Inc is very well done and keeps getting improved.

I think the graphics look quite good. Software Inc reminds me a bit of Halt and Catch Fire. Maybe they should have done a tie in before the series end ;).

Well, both games are in EA. We will see where they end up.
