Romancing SaGa 3 - Bokuno Hack
Hello there, very excited to see another SaGa game officially translated.

* especially on STEAM *

Out of curiousity, does anyone else here follow these monthly updates to the old SNES game Romancing SaGa 3 ?

I only played the aabeta patch, it's pretty fun.

They're still updating bokuno? I played aabeta a while back. I love a lot of the additions to the gameplay, but I'm not a big fan of having all the crossover characters and stuff.

Now the "aabeta" patch added the combo-techs right ?

I recall it had a lot of the battle mechanics changed around.

Also, yeah I think it had another update this month.

* more boss battles and more recruitable characters *

Too bad no one has started english-translating either of these patches.

I'm somewhat willing to do it, but I couldn't do it by myself and every experience I've had with fansub/fan translation groups has been absolutely abysmal so I don't do it anymore XD

And yeah aabeta had the combos and stuff, it was pretty cool.

I know a guy name magno who has been working on translating the game into English.

Though he can not find anyone to team up with to finish the translation :

aabeta was an individual project which later gathered a few collaborators. The originator already stopped releasing updates. His collaborators continued to develop RS3 and named it as bokuno and til date is still being updated.
Difference is that aabeta originally already had a class system, costume, combined tech, mystic absorption skills and mech while bokuno didn't start out with these despite the split.

Hmm, I see...thanks for history lesson.

So the "aabeta" came first then "bokuno" followed.

Very interesting, and I do recall there are certain items that will change certain character's sprites when equiped in the 4th slot.

Is there a place where we can check out all of the trigger-able events in these hacks ?

I know there should be a few youtube videos floating around.

Romancing Saga 3 got a translation patch many years ago.

There were combo techs in that game that worked. I don't remember all of them, but I think most of them were combo casts, and required specific formations to execute. The techs were learned by finding items in some of the later dungeons that unlocked them.

While RS2 is good, RS3 is even better. I played it on ♥♥♥ version several times long ago. It was only accessible on snes emulators. I especially remember Michael running an empire and his castle battles. Simple but very nicely done :D Wish they release it somehow somewhere again 'cause it was one of those games I'd never forget ^^

Yeah, the base RS3 was English translated by a few different groups.

There were a lot of combo techs you could use in "commander mode", but the special ones are unlocked after beating the "4 Devil-Fiend" bosses

* their boss battle song is still my favorite *

I recall the water one "Quick-Time" being the most helpful.

Also, I recall the Ultimate magic of the corresponding element could be purchased afterwards as well.

The "aabeta" patch added a lot of cool combo-techs to compensate how powerful the enemies were.

The damage cap is 99999 though there is no way to reach this figure at skill level 40. Shadow servants becomes a necessity towards episode finale bosses in aabeta. Instead of chaining combo that increases damage by 20% and probability of triggering benediction, the 200% boost from shadow servant is more powerful. It's a nice addition for combined tech early to mid game. But the class system contribute to more damage as it increases base stat past 30 as compared to the 10- 20ish in base game.
One of the last few patches (maybe the class system or addition of unlimited saga character) broke the Saga frontier rune magic quest whereby victory rune cannot be obtained. I would recommend not adding any patch to the original aabeta as it messes up your inventory. Already replayed it to end game 5x never managed 100% it.

Yeah, it is too bad there is not a English site that keeps up with the patches.

It still amazing me that people are adding to the game.

Maybe once the patches have slowed down, some team will translate it into English.

Also, any news on RS3 coming to STEAM ?
