The vacuum, yeah it was hard to read at first and can be an instakill depending on your health. I do spam dodge to get away from him and not get sucked in.
The above 2 tactics I used in conjunction with running around in tight as possible circles around him when he spits his acidic poison. The reason being that you don't want to fill your safe zone, by halfway to the wall to fully to the wall, with health depleting poison pools.
Aside from the beginning of the battle, where I fight his exposed body at close range, I am usually fighting him at medium range. This kept me out of the poison pits I forced him to make in his immediate perimeter, and kept my further away from the vaccum, and gave me enough time to get away from the tentacle sweep.
Probably better tactics out there, but I used this for both Challenging and Apocalyptic.
Oh nice. I didn't even think of force hollow. Doh!
So force FTW
Stay mid-range.
This ensures two things: he won't be able to chew on you (force hollow prevents being sucked in, but he can still grab you if you're close) and you will have time to back away when you see that he's about to do the tentacle sweep.
When he starts spitting acid - get close to him and just sprint around, because if you stay at the edges of the room he can keep on doing it for a long time.
The rest of his attacks are telegraphed and should be dodged. But even if you miss a few - you can just heal through them, they don't hit that hard unless you catch a full combo.
Phase 2:
Stay afloat and use dodge to move around quickly, that way you can easily arm the mines but stay away from their range so they don't explode on you. Just let him suck in a couple of those.
Frankly, I was disappointed with this fight. Basically, the fight ends at half of his HP bar, because Phase 2 is just a bit harder than a QTE sequence would be.
I was disappointed with the Lust fight to some degree because you could basically ignore Usiel, but at least you had the option to kill both if you wanted to.
But here when you've just prepared yourself to have a second phase and think that you'd need to save more heals for it next time - bam! and the fight is over.
Stay far away with flame hollow and just keep charging up and using the crossblade. Jump in with your best levelled weapon between phase changes before quickly jumping back a distance again. When he spits the goop everywhere run in close to him so he stops and changes phase again. When you stay far enough away the tentacle swipe and sucking won't be an issue. If you want to use a havoc mode, use it in this part because you won't get to in the second part.
Second part in the water looks scary but is super easy: Stay in swim mode and dodge back as soon as you have control after the cinematic. Go back near his face to tempt him to try and suck you in, then lure a floating mine towards him so he sucks that in and takes damage. Do that twice, then finish him off with the whip up close and he's done.
