How do I get an elven mage?

I've started a new game with an elven child and despite having 8 mysticism I can never get the option for him to become one. I've also tried another run with a young witch in my group but still nothing.

When your children grow up, they get a chance (!) to become certain classes depending on their stats. However you need for non-humans to have either an adult (in your case an elf - the slave doesn't count) or you have to be allied with the corresponding fraction. Otherwise you can only choose between good old traits and the chance-option.

Ooooh. So in this instance, I just need any random adult elf and the prerequisite mysticism stats (in this case 8+) in order to even have the option to be a mage?

Or just be allied to their faction.

Even with the required stats, loyalty and/or adult the chance is still very low as the elven mage is one of the most powerful classes available to the elven faction

Really? So there's a chance during the adult event, it just won't even appear? Can you save scum it until it appears?

Welp. Saved the round before adult event and despite reloading 10 times already, I only get the option for the old trades.

Edit: Reloaded about 25 times now:

1x option to become warrior
2x option chance event
23x option of just old trades.

The chance for mage is abysmal.

So we actually have spreadsheet with all the options and chances on them someone made a long time ago that I now maintain and keep up to date.

Looks like to get the more advanced options the elven child needs Mysticism 7 and you also need to either have Loyalty 50 with the Elves (Woodland Kin) OR have 2 magic users (witches, volh, gusla, druids, mages etc etc)

On another note, is there a difference between a young elven mage and elven mage?

Lower stats and health, they otherwise are identical in terms of skills and anything else.

Iirc its like 1~2% chance. Its stupid low when it already has high requirements just for unlocking the possibility. In a game without savescumming you have better odds winning the lottery.

yeah ive argued the same, that they should make the odds better, for some of the funnest classes, all falling on deaf ears :(

The way to get the best classes is to complete content, i.e. progress the divine quest and visit the elven cities. I'm not surprised the argument that players should get the best classes on game start will fall on deaf ears.
