JK2MV compatibility, bugs fix, etc...
Have fun !
Didn't expect it to be 10 minutes but I kinda lost track of time. :)
Thanks for the promotion / credit. 🙂
(I'm going to update the Mod soon, to fix some bugs)
Open Expanded_Menu.cfg and modify the folowing line :
(The 2 default keys that appear in the quick menu section will not change.)
I took a bit late... ^^'
I am actually trying to improve this as much as possible.
Good Game ! ;)
It's a very nice mod thanks for sharing your work. :)
Also, is it possible to remove the black bars or change the FOV for the cutscenes in 16:9 and 16:10? Gameplay is great but then Mon Mothma's head is missing in the opening cutscene thanks to the cutscenes being in 4:3. It's okay if you can't do any of this. Just wondering.
Hi,
For your case, you just have to place "Widescreen Crosshairs" alphabetically after "Expanded Menu", by changing the first letter of the mod file.
For example :
xExpanded_Menu.pk3
zWidescreen_Crosshairs.pk3
If you have other suggestions for a next update, don't hesitate.
Good game.
Thank you so much for replying. It worked and now I can aim much better.
As for suggestions regarding new updates, I actually have a few. Some are more personal suggestions, while others are more necessary additions.
Here are the ones that I think are necessary:
- Fixed 16:9 and 16:10 cutscenes. This can be done two ways: #1. Removing the black bars just like in the JA Enhanced mod or #2. Changing the FOV of the camera perspectives just like in the PS4 and Switch ports of JKII.
- Fixed 16:9 and 16:10 HUD. Modders have made widescreen version of the JKII hud for Jedi Academy that works beautifully. Would love to see Outcast get the same treatment.
Now for the more personal suggestions:
- Classic Jedi Outcast HUD option: While I do like the new digital only look for the HUD, I do think it would be nice to include the option to revert back to the original analogue looking HUD Kyle had in base JKII.
- Menu Music options: I love the fact that you've added in the ability to change the music for whatever level or MP map your in. If it's possible to give the player the option of choosing the main menu music, that would be awesome.
- Classic Menu Background option: While I do love the new menu design with the sun rising over the planet, their's something so epic, mysterious, and haunting about the original menu's design. I would love it if players had the option to switch to it.
- Xbox/GameCube Menu Background option: Same reason as why I want the classic menu back as an option. I just think it would be really cool if this mod became like the definitive way to experience Jedi Outcast.
- Xbox/GameCube concept art and character viewer: This was such a cool addition that's exclusive to the Vicarious Visions console ports. I think it would be really cool if PC players could experience it to.
Now these final three can be fixed with mods so their less suggestions in that there's currently no way to experience them and more suggestions in that I wish they were available out of the box with this amazing mod:
- Original Font option: I like the new HD font, but I wish there was an option out of the gate to us the OG font but upscaled. Paring this mod with JK2MV does actually convert the font to the original.
- Original Menu and Inventory sound options: This can be fixed by downloading the Jedi Outcast Menu sounds for Jedi Academy.
- Widescreen Crosshairs: The whole question that started this conversation. While changing the letters did work, I do wish the crosshairs were scaled properly out the gate.
I doubt you'll be able to all of these because...well...a lot of them are more wishes on a Christmas list then they are actual fessible improvements. However if you can get at least one of these suggestions into the next update I would really appreciate it. I love Expanded Menu mod as outside of these minor things I wish it included, I consider it to be the definitive way to experience Jedi Outcast. Thank you once again for responding to my comment. It means alot.
P.S. For some reason setting the Weapon Position to 16:10 in multiplayer (even when you have the regular FOV set to 16:10) looks really off. Weirdly this can be fixed if you set Weapon Position to 4:3 and keep the FOV at 16:10. This only happens in multiplayer.
I will see what I can do, but many of the features you request require modifying the game's source code, and losing compatibility with some mods, etc.
Regarding the crosshair options, It's normal for you to have problems with your aiming reticle. I placed the coordinates based on the 4:3 icon format and not the 16:9 mod you downloaded. It also depends on the dynamic crosshair and some camera settings.
You can find your best option by using the following command in the console with your custom values :
seta cg_crosshairX 3
seta cg_crosshairY 4
Some options like the sounds and music in the menu are my personal choices, I'm sorry if they don't appeal to everyone (I don't want to hear some sounds anymore, like one menu sound and the multiplayer music, otherwise my head will explode lol).
You can already custom your main menu music, but not the sound with the mouse for exemple, open the Expanded_Menu.cfg to see some options.
Regarding the menu background, I already placed an option to switch between the sun and a video background, I could add the original background, but some elements like the text isn't to the original place, that could be strange.
For the Gamecube version, I don't know where I can find clear a visual of the menu.
Some little bugfixes are already ready, I will update it one day, but I don't want 1000 versions of the Mod so I upload it when all little bugs are fixed, and when I have time touch to the Mod. ^^'
Once again thanks for the reply. Like I said a lot of my suggestions are wishful thinking. I just felt that this mod was so perfect, the best way to experience Outcast with such ease of use, that I though "oh what of they added this to it. then it would be the ultimate to experience Outcast."
For the PC background option, I was thinking more the background as in the blue void with the spinning Jedi emblem and the title of the game would be available as an option in the menu. None of the formatting of where the options are cause frankly, the original layout for the menu has not aged well. As for the console background, check out the original XBOX version. It has the same menu (plus concept art and character viewer) the GameCube version has. The only difference is that the XBOX version is backwards compatible on Xbox One and Series X consoles, with everything upscaled to about 1080p.
I can understand if some of these fixes and additions aren't possible or don't fit your vision for Expanded Menu. In my mind a consumer shouldn't really dictate an artists work when they have done jack squat. I love this mod with all my being. It's so easy to install and it streamlines Outcast so well. I just have these little things, very minor and pointless things when you think about it, that I wish the mod included. But I'm not going to dictate who you do the mod. You're the creator and I'm just an observer giving wishful feedback.
Weather you implement all of these changes or just one, I'm still going to play it because of how much work was put into it and how one person single handedly made my favorite Star Wars game so much better to experience. Thank you so much for all you have done and for taking the time out of your day to reply to my silly comments and suggestions.
