I've already reinstalled the game twice :(
@sniper: how can I save using the console again?
Then type in :
save x
replacing X with whatever you want, just make sure you have the same name when you use "load x".
I generally do
bind k "save game"
That way I can just press k to have it save.
I had this problem, and the issue was that I used to have the old CD version installed. The old version won't launch on late versions of Mac OS X, so Steam's version is the only way to play without rebooting into an old OS. May 4th's sale was too much to pass up, so I did the re-purchase. The Steam version doesn't like the old files, so you get the version complaint if you try to load or save.
The real solution: go into your ~/Library/Application Support folder. At this point I right-clicked on the Jedi Knight II folder and compressed it for backup, then move the original into the trash. Relaunch Outcast and you'll see the load screen working properly. You've got the zipped version if you want to fish your saves out. Don't try old saves with the new version or you're back to square one.
You're welcome.
