Jedi Outcast ( JK2 ) 2024 GAME UPDATE CRASH FIXES.
Hello this is your old help and guides guru HiFi known ingame as `Fi.` A lot of you older players might remember me from my previous fix detailed here https://steamcommunity.com/app/6030/discussions/0/492378806380464595/

I am here to help once again with a new fix brought down from Jedi Academy titled "OpenJK" that improves the game for modern PC's and adds various quality of life bug fixes, stability fixes. This can be applied before first start up and if you chose not to use my previous fix if the game has been crashing on you before you get into game. If you have done the old fix I suggest you remove the OpenGL.dll fix as this is a more up to date method or if the old fix just didn't work for you.

The fix for multiplayer not only includes the same fixes for single player but allows us to chose and use all servers for the various versions of the Jedi Outcast game that have different gameplay mechanics to one other titled "1.02, 1.03, 1.04" If you have the Steam version yours would be 1.04 and the CD version would have been 1.02 without any separately downloaded patches. I won't go into detail about the differences but to be short they play like entirely different games and they do not share servers.

This is considered a mod so any total conversions of the game might not work properly with this new fix and you should be warned. pretty much any mod that goes into "Gamedata" folder might have issues but any in base folder that is a .pk3 file should work fine.

You do not have to use this on a clean game this can be added to an existing game folder with all your mods because you will be using a seperate .exe to launch the game. The first guide will be for single player and the second for multiplayer both work fine with one another. Should you chose to only play single or multiplayer pick the guide you'd like the game works fine without the other fix.
Info about the mods can be found here SP https://jkhub.org/files/file/4008-openjo-for-jedi-outcast/ and MP https://jk2mv.org/

THE SP FIX.

For Steam

First of all, to get to your “gamedata” folder in JK2 you must go to your steam library, right click Jedi outcast, then click properties (located in the context menu), now click the tab titled “Local Files” and then click the box titled "browse local files." If you followed these steps correctly you should see a folder pop up titled "Jedi Outcast" inside that folder there should be another folder titled "Gamedata" open that by selecting the folder and double clicking or select the folder and press enter key. Now you should see two “.exe” files one titled "jk2sp.exe" and "jk2mp.exe" (for JK2)

For CD

you'll need to look for your install path which should look something similar to "C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\GameData"

FIX INSTALLATION

Once you find them download the fix from this link (This is also a good website to get mods):

https://jkhub.org/files/file/4008-openjo-for-jedi-outcast/?do=download

Download the version for Windows chose to save it onto your desktop (Desktop Folder). Now open the "OpenJO_Windows_05-22.zip" and extract the “OpenJK_JA_JO_Release-Compile-winx86” folder and place it on your desktop. Now move the contents of the folder (not the .zip) into the “gamedata” folder. Once it is in your "gamedata" folder you should see a file titled "openjo_sp.x86.exe" you'll be using this to launch the single player to get the fixes. You can right click this and hit "create shortcut" then move that to desktop for quick launching.

MP FIX.

Keep the "Gamedata" folder open. Once you are finished with the single player head to this site for the multiplayer fix

https://jk2mv.org/downloads/

If you have the CD version or a non steam version you'll need to update your game following this link to the newest patch before you install the fix. Found here.

https://jk2mv.org/data/_uploaded/file/JKIIUp104.exe

If you have the steam version you can download the installer and run that if it works for you great. If it doesn't you'll need scroll down on that site and look for the "Portable version" found directly here

https://github.com/mvdevs/jk2mv/releases/download/1.4.1/jk2mv-v1.4.1-win32-x64-portable.zip

Download to desktop then open the "jk2mv-v1.4.1-win32-x64-portable.zip" file and you should see one folder titled "jk2mv-v1.4.1-win32-x64-portable" drag or extract onto your desktop. Once that is done open the "jk2mv-v1.4.1-win32-x64-portable" folder and drag then drop the contents into your "Gamedata" folder. You should see a file titled "jk2mvmp.exe" you'll be using this shortcut to launch the game to get the fixes. You can right click this and hit "create shortcut" then move that to desktop for quick launching.

To test Jedi Outcast for JK2 single player once that is installed open the single player via "openjo_sp.x86.exe" in gamedata by double clicking if the game launches to the main menu start up a new game by clicking “New” selecting any difficulty and finally click “Begin Game” once you watch the cutscene and are able to move around shut the game down by pressing the escape key and clicking “Exit” then click “Quit Program” then click “Yes” then try the Multiplayer.

Start Multiplayer by double clicking the "jk2mvmp.exe" in the gamedata once the game starts click “Play” and then “Create Server” finally click begin. Once you load the game click “Join Game” in the “Player Configuration” Window and when you are finally able to move around close the game down once again by pressing the escape key, click “Exit” then click “Quit Program.”

WARNINGS AND ENDING NOTES.

I don't know exactly what GOG changes for their game or if this fix helps the GOG version but for those with this version who wish to follow this guide follow the CD version prompts.

If you wish to add this to steam for the overlay you can add it as a non steam game if it doesn't automatically launch with overlay for you. Open steam library on the bottom left click on "Add a Game" then "Add a non Steam Game" hit browse then locate your games file path which should be something similar to "C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Jedi Outcast\GameData" following this method it will not log your hours for game time should you want that.

If you ever intend to edit the main config file to change any settings before start up instead of creating an autoexec for say dismemberment or to add custom resolutions you'll need to edit "openjo_sp.cfg" and "jk2mvconfig.cfg" directly instead of the default "jk2config.cfg" and "jk2mpconfig.cfg" which will be found inside the "gamedata" folder in a folder titled "base."

Do you at least see files the match the names? You probably do not have "Show file extensions" enabled in windows file explorer.

Open File Explorer.
Click on the View tab.
Select "Show" then click "File name extensions"

I tried this, and the game booted, but the game menu didn't show any text. I can still hover over stuff, and it gets highlighted, but there is no text
