Jedi Outcast not starting up on Windows 10
I recently got myself a new laptop, and when I installed Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, they will not launch. They boot up, get to the code screen, and then back out, no matter what I do. Does anyone know a fix to this issue?

Go to: Steam\steamapps\common\Jedi Outcast\GameData, right click jk2sp.exe, and set the compatibility mode to Windows XP. Then launch normally. Do the same for the MP exe if you want to play that.

Same problem. I set the compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2, SP3, and Windows 8. Still nothing worked

These aren't fixes for me either. Jedi Academy works fine, but JK2 does not launch, even after these compatibility tweaks.

Any other advice?

I'm fairly new to steam, as I tend to game only once per year, and aren't to familiar with navigating the self-help information sources, especially when various sources are having different problems and different solutions. It's hard to know which camp of problems you fall into.

It isn't windows 10 it is your terrible on board graphics that isn't good enough to run this decades old game. Try the open GL fix found here https://steamcommunity.com/app/6030/discussions/0/492378806380464595/

go to GameData folder, right click the jk2sp.exe, select "properties", switch to "Compatibility" tab, check "run as administrator". That should do the trick.

You need Opengl

Whoever made these games unplayable is to kill themselves.

I'm having the same problem on nVidia hardware - some days the game will launch the game window only to immediately close, then the next day it'll run as intended. Running as administrator guarantees it'll work, but that disables the overlay so I'd prefer another solution.

I'm thinking the issue might be related to Remote Play Together, or at least the notice about it that pops up on starting (God knows why this game supports it), since that was the only thing out of the ordinary I noticed once it started giving me trouble. Moreover, Jedi Academy never gave me the same problem, until today when I had to try twice to get it to start - and once it did, it showed a notice about Remote Play Together that never popped up for that game before today.
