Tried to save the doomed moving platform on Cairn Reactor

So I was playing on the part of the Cairn Reactor where you board the platform, before two Stormtroopers shoot rockets, which lead to the platform descending down into the void. I realized you're supposed to use the light things on the wall to make it to the other side. I wasn't satisfied with this, so i wanted to see if i could actually get the platform to the other side.
So i tried to save the platform first by going on the light things on the walls before activating the platform and killing the Stormtroopers beforehand. But they don't spawn unless you use the platform. So I tried to activate the platform, quickly maneuver on the walls in time, use force speed, and shoot them down. This was also unsuccessful. Since i practically never use detonators, i had 5 of them on me, and i went to the other side, planted them in the spots where the Stormtroopers spawn, and went back to the platform. After many attempts, I finally got to kill them both before they shot their rockets... and the platform goes down anyway. In other words, it's one of those game mechanics where it's an automatic thing and the Stormtroopers are just there to provide an explanation. It took over 40 minutes, but it's nice to know that the platform on the Cairn Reactor is always doomed.
