How to play Dark Magician deck ?
Hello, I am working on a deck that will focus around Dark Magician and cards that work around him. I am using many equip and spell cards that are in some way connected to DM.
Also, I am experimenting with deck size, and I cant get around the fact that you just cant win with 20 cards strat if you plan to play around Dark Magician.
I have been trying to play with 30 cards as well, but factor of luck is mostly present in that case.
If I get good hand, I will obliterate my enemy in few turns, but if I dont, I will not be able to spawn any monsters and I lose in few turns as well. I wish to create deck that wont involve factor of luck so much. Want to say that I am fairly new to this game, not very experienced player, I am Gold rank, and I am still discovering and getting to know cards and combos.
I will post here list of cards I am using, and I would love community feedback of what should I change, add , keep etc.

MONSTER CARDS:

-Dark Magician level 7 ATK/2500 DEF/2100 (3 copies)
-Dark Magician Knight level 7 ATK/2500 DEF/2100 (1 copy)
-Magician of Dark Illusion level 7 ATK/2100 DEF/2500 (1 copy)
-Dark Magician girl level 6 ATK/2000 DEF/1700 (1 copy)
-Magician's Robe level 2 ATK/700 DEF/2000 (1 copy)
-Blue Dragon Summoner level 4 ATK/1500 DEF/600 (1 copy)
-Big Shield Gardna level 4 ATK/100 DEF/2600 (1 copy)
-Trident Warrior level 4 ATK/1800 DEF/1200 (1 copy) when normal summoned, I can special summon 1 level 3 monster from my hand
-Maha Vailo level 4 ATK/1550 DEF/1400 (1 copy) this card gains 500 ATK for each equip card
-Dark Elf level 4 ATK/2000 DEF/800 (1 copy) this card requires 1000 of your own LP to attack
-Cipher Soldier level 3 ATK/1350 DEF/1800 (1 copy) this card gains 2000 ATK vs warrior type monsters during damage calculation only
-Junk Synchron level 3 ATK/1300 DEF/500 (1 copy) I use this card for synchro summon, bcs I have few monsters in my extra deck, but I should probably remove this card from this deck
-Grave Squirmer level 1 ATK/0 DEF/0 (1 copy) if this card is destroyed by battle, target 1 card on the field and destroy it.

So, those are 15 monsters in total I usually have in my deck. As you can see, most of them are spellcasters and warriors with some good effects.

SPELL CARDS:

-Ancient Rules (3 copies) this card allows me to special summon 1 level 5 or higher NORMAL monster from my hand. This must be my favorite card as it allows me to summon Dark Magician directly on the field in first turn and enable my strategy, it is perfect when I get this spell card and Dark Magician in first hand, thats how I usually win, but when I get all 3 of them in first hand, or all 3 DM's, thats no good for obvious reasons.

-Knight's Title (1 copy) , with this card, I can tribute 1 FACE UP Dark Magician, and special summon Dark Magician Knight from my hand, deck or graveyard. This is also very strong card and I love it, but it has few downsides, its no good when you get DM Knight in your opening hand, bcs he is worthless in that case without this card, it would be much better if he could rest in extra deck, (this is the case for Mirage Knight as well, bcs I was experimenting with him as well, there is no reason why Mirage Knight shoud not be in your extra deck, I dont see any reason for him to be in the main deck, bcs he is so super situational card, and if you get him in your opening hand you will almost surely lose the duel in next 2 turns)

-One-Shot Wand (1copy) equip only to spellcaster monster, it gains 800 atk, after damage calculation, you can destroy this card, and if you do, drow 1 card.

-Thousand Knives (1 copy)
-Dark Magic Attack (1 copy)
-Illusion Magic (1 copy)

So, here we have about 8 spell cards, 6 different ones closely connected to Dark Magician.

TRAP CARDS:

-Wall of Disruption (1 copy)
-Treacherous Trap Hole (1 copy)
-Draining Shield (1 copy)
-Champion's Vigilance (1 copy)
-Metalmorph (1 copy)
-Spikeshield with Chain (1 copy)

Thats 6 trap cards in total.


After posting all of this, its kind of clear to me why this deck wont work, to many different options, and its all about luck what cards will I get in my opening hand.
I have been playing on DESTINY DRAW skill almost exclusively just so I can get that 1 change to pick what card I need, bcs without that skill its almost impossible to play this deck.
Anyway, I would really love and apreciate some advice and tips how to build and play Dark Magician deck, I know it is not super good tier in the current meta, but I cant understand really why.

Thees cards right here are not needed in the deck at all.

Knight does nothing for your deck. Its a neg 1 on your end(using two cards to get rid of 1). After that it's just a mediocre beatstick.
Your right its situational, making it very bad. It's a free spot removal, no restrictions on what it targets, but you can still be as effective with cards like thousand knives or Cosmic Cyclone.

Dark Elf is just a shiny beatstick, it's good, but Gene-warped Warwolf or any generic beatstick does its job better.
Cipher is situational, but has its uses

Get yourself several copies of Ancient Rule(PvP R ticket).
Cosmo Brain is also useful

You should have a copy of DM expand, add that(1-3 depending on how many you have).

Yea, I find it strange how Dark Magician girl is so hard to play alongside Dark Magician, even tho they have plenty of cards that are connecting them, its so hard to play them together, I will remove her.
Junk Synchron will be removed as well, I was just testing something with additional synchro summon strat, but it doesnt belong in this deck.
Dark Elf I actually need to triger my DESTINY DROW and thats why its there.
Grave Squirmer is good situationaly , I just love when Kaiba special summon his Blue Eyes and say "Not a single card can stand up to this" , except Grave Squrimer :D thats what I always say.
DM Knight is kind of throwing me off, I like it, but maybe you are right, it doesnt belong in here.
I have 3 copies of Anciet Rule, do I need more ?

for Ancient Rules no 2-3 is fine(3 is max anyway). It isn't a hard once per turn which makes it pretty good, but you don't want it to clog your hand if you end up with three.

I can see where you're going with Dark Elf, paying your own life points to attack isn't horrible(it's far better than Panther Warrior), but you can be as effective with cards like WoD, but if it works now that's fine. i don't know what cards you own so I can't just say "get all the best cards and you'll be fine".

Tribute Burial can also be useful in some situations, especially against decks like Vampires.

Add another copy of thousand knives and see how it goes.

Yea, thats what I am looking for, some other cards that can help me enable my Dark Magician.
So, Tribute Burial and Monarch Awakens , I will look up for them and see what can I do.
Are there any similar things I can do ?

I'd recommend that you drop all the monsters that don't really belong in that deck. Cipher, Dark Elf, Junk Synchron, Trident and Maho. I'd say Grave Squirmer is still in the grey area. Magician's Circle helps you get DMG on the field. Other good monsters imo are Breaker and Cosmo. Another Dark Illusion could also help since he's easy to summon. Metalmorph, Wand and Spike shield could also be removed. And if you have them Paleo Canada and/or floodgate traphole are good choices.

Problem is I dont have many top tier trap cards, just recently I got TT Hole and WoD, bcs of this new login bonus rewards, that actually got me into playing this game again, but just 1 copy of them is not enough.
Maho I use in combination with 1 Shot wand for ez great damage and another drow, it also works with many spellcasters I have, but mostly I like it bcs it gives me options.
Cipher I like to have just in case, when I use destiny drow vs warrior monsters, I won many duels that way, also he can be summoned with Trident warrior, so I get 2 monsters on the field in 1 turn if I am lucky, so I can use them for DM tribute next turn.

I dont have Canadia, Cosmo, Breaker, Floodgate etc...
Also I wish I got second Dark M Illusion , but event ended...

I find the easiest way to use Dark M is to substitute most of your monster cards for 4 star power monsters. Use cards to put your Dark Magics in the graveyard, then use spells/traps to special summon him from there.

Cosmobrain and Dark Crusader are good for this. But there's no reason why you couldn't use something like wonder ballons.

I've been running Magician's Robe for getting Dark Magician on to the field. Been working wonders so far, combining it with Magician of Dark Illusion allows me the two 6* or higher Monsters I need for Sorcerer Of Dark Magic

Excuse the BUMP (and double post), but I had meant to mention that further fiddling with the Dark Magician deck has yielded that Illusion and Robe effects CAN work together in order to get both Illusion and Dark Magician on to the field in the same action

Instead of setting Robe, I summon him (being prepared to lose life points) with a Spell in hand for his effect and set a Trap that will activate Illusion's effect (Jar Of Greed in this case). I wasn't paying attention the first time since I was looking for something else, but setting Robe in my earlier mentioned move wouldn't see him go face-up until the Battle phase, meaning you have to choose one or the other. This is a good find since I started running Sorcerer Of Dark Magic as well (who has come in REAL handy). Sorcerer also goes well with Magician's Circle as it can get Dark Magician Girl on to the field, who also qualifies for Sorcerer's tribute

I also found that activating Jar Of Greed and drawing Illusion with Greed's effect still counts for Illusion's effect. The first time I came across that was a life (points) saving situation, I had thought Illusion had to be in my hand when I activated the Spell/Trap. Turns out if it was activated on their turn (outside the Battle phase), as long as Illusion is in your hand (even if not when the turn started), then IT'S GOOD

I'm still fiddling with it all, so I'll see how this all holds and anything else that happens

Just have friggin Kozmo and you are good... This is the trending card right now. Get the dark magician support card.

Part of why I'm avoiding it for now. One of the reasons I don't bother much with PvP is because I like creating personal decks to the characters, I'll go with Cosmo Brain if I ever feel the (competitive) need
