Why play in First Person?
For a survival horror like this, it clearly puts you at a disadvantage. It's like playing Silent Hill or Resident Evil in First Person, just why would anyone choose to play with this?

Not telling anybody what to do, I am actually just curious to see why people play in first person.

You can't properly stealth kill from a corner with FP mode on, which was what I was was using on the harder difficulty to conserve ammo. It doesn't let you know what's near and if ur caught off guard the view is disorientating. This game was made from the ground up as a 3rd person shooter.

For some people third person takes away a huge part of horror.

Most the "scarier" horrorgames are made in FirstPerson because its right up in your face and you can't look around corners and stuff like that. Going around a corner might give you a nice healthpack or ammo or hiding spot or just a big surprise of nopes.

I think they just wanna give it a try and wanna give players the option to.
I'm definity gonna play through this game again now in first person, prob. feels completely different.

I'm glad the devs are willing to try such things.

So what about resident evil 7 thats first person!!
Latex Assassin Feb 17, 2018 @ 8:41am
Resident evil 7 was designed with first person mode in mind thats why all the models and environment match, first person in this could of been done with a console command before this useless update and even now its still as broken and pointless

The sole reason I play horror games is because I want to be scared and feel the tension while I play. That is something that is just much less effective when a horror game is in third person. With this update I surely will buy this game one day.

It has made the game much more intense and scary, it's like a different game and I prefer it.
The author of this topic has marked a post as the answer to their question.

Well, yeah. Things don't work as well in some areas of the game in first person.
However.
I haven't seen many problems with stealth kIlling around corners, as you can still peek around to see if there are any enemies. Need to test it for myself though.
Seeing as you're fighting Lost for like 60% of the game, and Disciples for about 35% (Albedos being the sole exception to this, at a dismal 5%), all of them will shriek like mad when they see you, and the animation for this is quite a long while, giving you plenty of time to calmly react to the enemy approach, so long as you don't throw your mouse.

Anyway, I find FP to be much more disturbing, as the enemies are up close and disgustingly personal. I also find the shooting mechanics work a little better, as you're no longer having Seb's massive body block half the screen.

EDIT: Thank goodness they included a toggle, so TPS and FPS fans can enjoy the game their way.

I hate First Person horror game except Alien Isolation.
But would much rather have Third Person survival games like Evil Within is.
So ill never play it in First Person View.

I also only rarely enjoy games in first person view and Alien: Isolation was one of the big exceptions for me too. First person was one of the reasons I didn't like RE7 fore example. For me it's more immersive if I can actually see the characters while playing because I can better identify with them then - like in movies. I don't need nor want to think it's somehow "me" who is the character. E.g. if RE2 remake ever comes out, I want to be able to see Claire and Leon.

Also alot of mechanics actually work much better in third person, like e.g. cover.

I am really happy that the "Evil Within" franchise kept third person view because this is becoming ever more rare these days due to the VR thing.
Totally thumbs up for your post here.
One advantage I see so far while playing 1st Person View is that the animation when picking items like Ammo, Weapon Parts, Herbs, Bottled Gel, and Gun Powder is gone. When you're over an item and press the use button, it's immediately added to your inventory. Not a big difference in speed but some might find it an advantage. The only true advantage is when picking up gel (the one that's a puddle, not in a bottle) because there's no long animation to pick it up. The animation pick up items from bodies still have that animation. If some might not know, some parts of the game like opening drawers, searching bodies, and going on ladder goes back to 3rd Person View. All that matters though is the person's preference if they want 1st Person or 3rd Person. I'll tell you it's a COMPLETELY experience that I feel as if it's my first time playing The Evil Within 2 and I've replayed the game 10+ times

10 hours in first person. I complete the first game and its makes it even harder which is why I like it.

I can answer you since I chose to play this game *because* a first-person view was added.
Simply put, it really adds to immersion a lot, since you see directly through Sebastian's eyes.
Also, it does make scary games like this one even scarier.

Now from a gameplay perspective, stealth is half-working, and it's not true 1rst person view, meaning aiming is a bit crappy and the few 3rd person bits left are bothering as hell. You can also enjoy majestic textures from even closer for an even better console experience.

But mainly because of when this game gets me angry, I can enjoy running to enemies and shooting with my shotgun in their face while looking them in the eye.

Edit : However, the story is a bit meh, I've had enough of Sebastian feeling guilty for everything that happens in the game, and the game just did what I hate in a video game, which is killing a character in a cutscene while your avatar is looking dumbly without moving. That's a game, you're supposed to do things, not watch a frecking movie, damn it. I need a break.

Just like other people said, first person mode adds a lot of immersion in a game that has focused a lot in its atmosphere. Gameplay wise, the game is prepared to be played as 3rd person (steath for example), but exploring in first person mode (or even fighting) is a joy. I would love to see the third game built with first person (and 3rd) in mind, so gameplay wouldn't be affected as much, as I am loving the new perspective.

Is your opinion and not a fact
