Because science!

It should read "4000 kelvins". No degrees, no capital K, pluralized.

Is there a reason why kelvins are not told in degrees despite that 1°C = 1k?

wtf? 1 kelvin is -272.15 Celsius :lunar2019deadpanpig:

Because the Kelvin scale is an absolute scale, which is defined such that 0 K is absolute zero and a change of thermodynamic temperature T by 1 kelvin corresponds to a change of thermal energy kT by 1.380 649 × 10 −23 J.

Or to put it *really* simple: The kelvin unit is not expressed in degrees like Celsius or Fahrenheit are. It is used by itself to describe temperature.

This is not what I meant, 1 unit of a kelvin is 1 unit of a Degree Celsius in term of scale.

4000 Kelvin in Celsius

4,000 Kelvin (K)
1 K = -272.15 °C
=
3,726.85 Celsius (°C)
1 °C = 274.15 K

4000 Kelvin in Fahrenheit

4,000 Kelvin (K)
1 K = -457.87 °F
=
6,740.33 Fahrenheit (°F)
1 °F = 255.928 K

Correct! However, it's a punchline based on GLaDOS's statements about the Portal Gun in Portal 1, in which she said it remains operational "up to 4000 degrees kelvin", so despite being the incorrect way to say it, it's consistent with the universe.

I think we should probably stop being pedantic about the measure units, everyone understood that even if a kelvin isn't said in degrees we get what she meant, it's purely semantics.

We can still say 120 Fahrenheit without mentionning degrees and people will get it.

The only time it may be problematic is when we says Calorie and carlorie since both are different (but usually we precise by saying kcal instead).
