Like use weakest attacks, taunt, and keep doing ad-nauseum to max out style or something?
There IS a no damage bonus but I usually get hit by some stray projectile or something so ♥♥♥♥ replaying the mission all over again just because I made the smallest mistake on the easiest difficulties.
---
In particular - Mission 10. The first mission you play Dante in. This mission just refuses to give me S rank on completion. And this mission is long enough to get annoying to replay over and over again.
I do understand that there are quite some people out there that have a desire to 100% every game. Some games are more fair than others. But that's just how the cookie crumbles.
It's not like they actually do anything, they're just for aesthetic and some bragging rights. (and I am a completionist so I know it can drive you crazy, but tough ta-tas, some things in life are difficult and/or tedious.)
For not getting hit at all you get 2.2 multiplier that basically grants you s rank for existing.
On hell and he'll while it may be hard it isn't impossible . I'd say it is on par with ultra hard achievements from different games. Mein Leben in Wolfenstein 2 is similar. It requires you to complete the game without dying or saving. So 2-4 hours without mistakes where ttk is below 1 s.
This game takes into account the easier difficulties by having much lower requirements for S rank on lower difficulties. I S ranked every mission on human on my first try. In DMC4 it was way harder to S rank Human mode.
Mission 10 is one of the problem missions that gives you a lower average of style points in general It's harder to S rank than most missions on all Difficulties (outside of Heaven or Hell).
Whenever you finish a fight the game will show you your current average style rating. When going after an S rank with no continues bonus check what your average needs to be by dividing the S rank requirement by 1.2. And aim to keep the number you see after every fight above that threshold. This way you will know if you are close to getting an S rank or so far away from it that you are better of restarting.

It'll take a while, but I'm making progress.
So getting an S rank is actually pretty easy.
