Vergil's doppelganger is some serious pain in the *you know where*, mainly because I'm aiming towards no damage. I already feel comfortable with RG and can easily block all of his attacks and build Rage Meter fast, but when he spawns doppelganger - it's over, no "No Damage" bonus for me.

Is it possible to deal enough damage to him on SoS/DMD before this stage to prevent doppelganger from spawning? Or I just need to git gud?

It's not too bad. The clone tends to act out of sync with vergil and even on DMD, its stagger resist is low.

You actually have a large advantage on DMD, you don't generate less DT. SDT is perfect for closing out the fight, since you can plow through his clone and him pretty easily,

You cant avoid it. Its his last "stage". Try to deal with the doppleganger asap first.

i most of the time just use the sdt as soon as he spawns the doppelgänger, and then use the luce. havent fought him on SoS yet though

Stop pressing the lock on button, Swordmaster style, charge dante's summoned spinning swords while running/jumping/evading both vergils attack and just throw those swords, they'll attack either vergil or vergil clone, rinse and repeat about 3-4 times and the clone is gone... Not the most stylish approach, but the easiest one to get rid of the clone I've found.

I usually just pop SDT when he shows up and spam luce. You could prob shoot him down with guns if you wanna play safe. All Vergil's attacks can be avoided by just running around and jumping.
