Soundtrack killed the franchise for me
I've been a fan since the initial release in 2001, even the reboot had some redeeming qualities IMO, but Casey's composition is the worst thing to happen to this franchise. It makes me furious that millions of people have touted this soundtrack as the best in the franchise. If you like the music, that's one thing, but it is objectively NOT DMC music. I wasn't even a fan of the DMC4 soundtrack, but the battle music at least felt like intense action music. This game leaves me feeling extremely unfulfilled.

From what I've heard the soundtrack was designed to fit every characters characteristics and that in my opinion is done farely well
And most of the boss battles also feature soundtrack that fits the opponent and the going on of the whole battle. The only disappointment I had was Vergils OST (his boss OST, not Bury the light)

What is objectively DMC music

Franchise has changed composers half a dozen times across different media. What, or Who do you want it to sound like?

I was critical of the ambient music not being as intense as the first two games, but the setting is different. It's not going to be quite as dramatic as Mallet Castle, or Downtown Vie Du Marli. I greatly appreciate the throwback leitmotifs here and there. Grab some of the Battle track dlc if your really upset?

Objectively, DMC 5 has the most varied OST with the largest number of musical genres.

Objectively, the high quality of each track is beyond doubt.

And for nostalgia, there are tracks from previous games.

And objectively, DMC 5 is the only game in the series which you can fight with a dynamic version of "Devils Never Cry")

So what's your problem?

Bury the Light and Devil Trigger are easily two of the best battle tracks in the series, and like the other guy said, it's the only game with dynamic Devils Never Cry (two versions of it, as well) for battle music.

Your opinion and taste in music sucks OP

I was one of the first people to buy dmc1 on ps2 release and you're wrong, nothing will ever touch the majesty of Devils Never Cry, but Devil Trigger and Bury the Light are even better than The Time has Come and easily on par with Taste the Blood. Even Subhuman is hated on too much, it's not even that bad.

We all know Public Enemy was the best theme.

Some of my faves are Phantom's and Griffin's themes from DMC, Oranguerra's, Trismagia's, and the end credits themes from 2, Nevan's Beowulf's, and Cerberus' themes from 3.

Bury the Light and Devil Trigger are absolutely the worst battle themes in the franchise, they sound like something from the Billboard Top 200 chart, not beat-your-enemies-senseless theme music.

My problem is the battle music doesn't have a kickass, f**k-s**t-up tone like all the previous entries. The battle music should have a tone reminiscent of "You Will Be Godless" by Heaven Shall Burn, or "ShutEmDown" by Celldweller.

I bought the classic tracks just so I'd have some battle themes for the ass-kicking portions, but some battles force the new tracks on you, regardless of jukebox selections, like mission 1 as Nero or the final mission as Vergil.

What's better and what's worse is a subjective thing. You may not like 5's music, that is fine, but please don't be a drama queen with statements like "killed the franchise for me". Completely unneccesary.

So the franchise wasn't killed to you by the reboot, but soundtrack instead?

lmao

DMC 5 allows the player to choose and change battle tracks on their own, even if not everywhere.
9/10 games don't provide such an opportunity.

But you whine anyway.
I'm not the only one to argue the same case. To me, and other fans of the series, the default battle themes are terribly disconnected from the cathartic action on screen. I feel like I'm listening to an emo pop-rock playlist, not an action-packed, gun-slinging, sword-swinging, beat-em-up playlist. Matter of fact, I've never felt such a jarring disconnect in any game I've ever played, this is the first time I've felt a void so distasteful I can't just "get over it," it's too atrocious. I'm pissed off that I can't play this game, and probably future releases, without feeling unprecedented levels of cringe.

And to those of you who can't come up with any intellectual arguments, just ignore this thread if you don't agree or can only spit childish remarks, simple as that. The "your opinion and taste sucks" argument is ineloquent, learn to form ideas on your own that hold merit without relying on ad populum.

Laugh all you want, doesn't change anything. The reboot has good art design, the soundtrack matches the mood of the action sequences, and the combat mechanics are fast, fluid, and fun, despite the characters and story being subpar. It wasn't a great game overall, but at least all the elements complemented each other. At the end of the day, I'm after tight, fluid action, with good visuals, sound effects, and adrenaline inducing battle themes.

Absolutely, because where I've never had a choice in the past, I've also never been so grossly disappointed. But with DMC5, the few places where I don't have a choice, it sounds so unbelievably out of place, it's ineffable.
