[Boss fight spoiler] I can’t beat this boss
I’ve been fighting vergil’s human form for quite a bit and can’t really get any further than half his health due to him destroying me in devil trigger form.

I haven’t had much trouble with the other bosses but vergil is a different story.
Is there a trick to vergil that i don’t notice?
or do i just need to git gud?

Like Vergil says "Foolishness.. Is rushing in blind all you can do?" Learn his attacks and while he's in SDT just keep backing away if you're not confident to parry or RG.

just learn royal guard that will solve all your problems :)

First couple of tries it was like that, i usually dodge his moves well and only recently started using RG but once he gets halfways RG isn’t as usefull as he uses multiple attacks, now i’ve started using the swordsman projectiles from dante’s sword then hit him once he’s distracted.

Around halfway i use trickster and run like a little baby as demon form vergil is hard to counter, i’ll keep trying though and thanks for the tip

Git gud and learn to block him with royal guard. Don't try to block just everything, but most of his attacks. When he's in SDT take out phantom first, as he can be pain in the аss. So that's all.

How does Royal Guard work?
Through the whole game I mostly powered up Nero more than V or Dante because I felt like he was the most fun and a key character (like he would be the one doing the actual final boss fight, you know...) But now I'm stuck at Vergil's human form and it's waaaaay too hard compared to previous bosses, like seriously, never died to a boss up until now, where I have no chance.
Difficulty spikes aren't really my thing.

Its basically what the name is all about: Guarding. Perfect blocks awards you style and 1 DT gauge and you can deal some nasty damage when you do a Royal Release with a full RG gauge

Way too random for my tastes, the parry actually only seems to work for a couple of his attacks, which I can't really seem to recognise before he does them, so I end up trying to parry an un-parriable attack, or an attack that has a longer execution time (therefore missing the parry). It's too much more unreliable than just trickster avoid all his attacks and hope to hit as many times as it's needed... I just can't get more than half his health.

Its a lot more friendly to beginners than it was in the past games though but still requires some skill and timing to use effectively. With Vergil, every attack of his is blockable even the stab and Judgement Cut End. I don't know if there's anything remotely unblockable in this game tbh

It's just boring to stand there and wait for him to attack, when you use RG it seems like he always uses that damned projectile attack, which is annoying and wastes a lot of time...
With trickster you can simply B to avoid all his attacks and fight back, I really don't see the appeal to be honest, I can hardly ever get the final combo to work on RG, is it really that good?

First, it's not random.

Second, you can block/perfect block all of Vergil's attacks if you're paying attention, there's no "un-parriable attacks". It all comes to learning patterns, nothing too difficult.

Third, Royal Guarding is much more reliable because, as Senki said, Royal Release with full Rage Meter deals some serious damage. You can easily take out at least 1/4 of Vergil's health that way even on DMD.

Learn to use Royal Guard. With enough practice, you can even block all of Vergil's attacks, even the AoE Judgement Cut. I usually mix it up between trickster and royal guard. I block the ones I'm confident I'll block and run like hell when I feel I can't do it. And a tip, air royal block has more frames than ground royal block.

Of course its gonna be boring if you just stick with RG the whole time. The point of this game is to be as stylish as possible within the game. I don't stick with RG the whole fight with Vergil but knowing when to use it makes you feel badass. I.E. Using Royal Release when Vergil is flying straight to you will deal hefty damage plus knock him out of SDT

Sorry, I have to ask this question because through the whole game I never felt the need to use anything than trickster... where on earth is the rage meter? Do I simply charge it with parries?

I have a question, can you mix up the styles without losing royal guard "charges"?

You build up the gauge through blocking. Perfect blocking yields more gauge and you don't lose it until you do a release
