If you know what you're doing DS is just a good, fun RPG that's also challenging. DMD is something else entirely. DMC has fast-paced action that requires you keep pace while calculating your actions all time, while DS has plenty of time for you to breathe.
Comparing DMC on DMD difficulty to Dark Souls is insane. DS doesn't have style points/ranks that require you to keep hitting the enemy all the time while changing what you're doing at the same time that you're dodging and defending yourself while worried about enemy DT all at the same time. Totally different games and combat styles.
I've beaten the game on every difficulty (currently trying to S rank everything) and as someone has pointed out already, DMD is just tedious. Dark Souls is so much fun and you can play it in so many ways while DMD is just "hey what if it's the same game but it takes four times the time to beat every enemy?". If it wasn't for the achievements I would have dropped it 'cause it just felt like a chore. Even HoH was more fun.
For what it's worth, SoS has felt like an absolute joke. The only time I've had trouble is with the final boss, and even then it's because I want to do it without using any gold orbs (I have about 24 of them). I did it with Dante, so now it's just a matter of learning it as Nero. I'm looking forward to DMD.
DMC5 on Son of Sparda alone is a lot more difficult than Dark Souls 1 or 3, as far as I'm concerned.
And I completed them to 100%
If you can't git gud then use Gorbs. Lots of them.
