No you just have to get good. I watched a friend of mine play this on the currently highest difficulty without taking any damage just by dodging. He also played every dmc out there. So he is a veteran. The combat system is nice and smooth.

i hope this is a troll post. i'm almost at the end of story on devil hunter mode and reckon i will have totalled HAH by next week. if this isnt a troll then i assume it's your first time playing dmc.. if it is then try auto combo for your first playthrough then go through NG+ without it. also using a controller helps massivly as the game isnt designed to be played on a keyboard and mouse. as for dodging.. if youre not mashing buttons then dodging works 100%.. only press the attack keys the specific amount of times. you can cancel attacks by performing certain moves and maneouvers and also staying in the air helps. i suggest buing enemy step and air hike early on and get used to useing the wire attack when in the air. also.. if you think that the game plays badly then i suggest upgrading your pc.. that could also be why dodging doesnt work so well. there are many combo's and such you just get a basic set and have to learn to string together sets of combo's.. as for comparing it to bayonetta in gameplay performance. that game is about 10 or more years old and as such would run buttery opn most pc's.
