Back is relative to V's position to the enemy, not Shadow's though, so depending on how things are arranged, it can feel weird, but it's basically the standard launch.
It's exactly as hammerstar said. It's pretty much the standard launch we all know and love. Hold the attack button (Y/triangle by default) and shadow will launch himself. From there, perform the airborne combos.
But when I do that, Shadow whips the enemy with its tail and lands back on the ground faster than it can accept another attack input, which is what I meant by it not working.
Mashing it also works to go straight into the one where he's basically a sawblade.
