It doesn't remove customization! Idk who wrote that but that's a lie. Customization stays, so no worries about that.
In DLC you're not using your just character anymore. There are two extra modes: Character Episode Mode (where you play as canon characters) and Territory Recovery Mode (where you're leading your own regiment to reclaim the lost lands. Here you can play as your character, or choose one of the canon). Both are very fun, especially TRM, since some missions there are really challenging and also gives you a lot of rare materials if you hit SS rank. This is also a great mode to get to know to the characters better! Everybody have three extra scenes, I think? Haven't watched them in a while, so I'm not sure lol.
But believe me when I'm saying DLC is fun and it's just getting hate because it's not custom character we're playing as (I'm not a fan of custom character in this game, but that's a long story why) and most people loves their character, so I suppose this is why they're whining about how "bad" this DLC is.
I bought the game at full price and so far, that's the only game I spent $60 and don't regret it. 430+ hours in the game and I'm still having fun and stuff to do. In my opinion, it's worth the money.
Well, yeah, you actaully did miss a opportunity to buy it at $40 from what I remember. KOEI usually don't go below 20%, so yeah, this was the biggest sale ever. But as I said, for me it's still worth to buy at full price. Also, first hour in the game is enough to tell if you like it or not, so you can get a refund.
As for Co-Op, I read that people start a mission, send out a distress signal, and friends join from that. While it's kinda inconvenient that you can't just invite friends to a private lobby, it at the very least doesn't seem too frustrating to play with friends. My only other question I guess, would be is most of the game playable in Co-Op or is the game just strictly PVP type stuff?
Also, Dang haha! That's sad that I missed it ^^; I suppose I'll either wait, or just end up buying it, since it seems like it's a pretty fun game (And my friend likes it a lot and would like friends to play with, so I can imagine playing with friends would add to it's fun, and playability ^^)
That doesnt mean you cant enjoy coop, there is Another Mode which works as free mode that lets you create or join online lobby and replay any mission game has to offer. Despite which method you and your friend decide to choose one rule stays the same, one of you needs to have X mission already completed, for distress signal its the joining person and for another mode host...or something like that(for the most part you need that story already completed I just dont remember exact rule).
If you want to enjoy coop the easiest way possible you can simply download save file from unofficial sources and jump straight into another mode, create lobby and replay story missions, doing so you technically lose cutscenes that some people love for some reason but distress signal is just pain in the ass and imo not worth the hassle.
Yeah, you can play as your own character in other modes, with expection for Character Episode Mode where you can only play as canon characters. But it's still fun!
Well, Co-op in Story Mode is pretty much complicated, since one of the players must have their Story Mode completed. Distress Signal is also a weird thing, since sometimes it just malfunction and doesn't appear to other players (happened to me twice). But I'm rarely using this, so you'd have to ask somebody who knows more about that than me. Also, Story Mode is meant to be played alone, so some missions might crash, from what I've read. But it's easy, really, even without great gear you'll be able to finish it without any problems all by yourself!
In Another Mode, multiplayer, you actually can create a private lobby and invite your friend, but from what I know the progress in story doesn't count then (but I think it does with Scout Missions you can access to later in the game, since when I was playing with friend of mine it counted for him and got achievement).
Well, you mostly fight with titans. There are two modes that could count as PvP, since you're competing with another player(s), but it's still killing titans. There's also mode where y'all playing as titan and the goal is to eat the most humans. That's the funniest mode to play with friends, with mine I was simply wheezing there lmao.
Story Mode, Territory Recovery Mode and Character Episode Mode missions are also available to play in multiplayer in Another Mode. In there, everything is co-op, really, and there's no need for Distress Signal, you just wait/invite people to lobby.
Oh yeah, playing with friends is so great! In fact, playing with anybody in this game is a lot of fun
