Has prestige for Decorations changed?

Under the old rules, if a guest saw a decoration for the first time, then it worked similar to how prestige works for aquatic animals. For example, if you had a tank with two barrels, then you'd get double the prestige (2 points per guest viewing).

However, I've noticed that my prestige values were different than expected. Under the Guest Thoughts it is really obvious that no matter how many decorations are in your tank (or aquarium), you only get prestige for the one item regardless of how many exist. This definitely applies to all plants and theme decorations. I haven't tested with rocks or caves but I suspect it's the same way.

For example, I have a Belfast tank with 7 Egg Wrack plants in it. No other tank in the aquarium has these plants, so I should be getting 7 points of prestige for every guest viewing it. However, I'm only getting 1 point multiplied per guest. Guest Thoughts is calculating the values for my aquatic animals right (if a guest sees a new type of fish, you get a prestige multiplier for each fish of that type in the tank).

If this is meant to be a design change for balance, then that's fine, but I suspect that this isn't intended.

I don't think anything has changed, I think perhaps the way it works is slightly different to how you thought before.

The number of items in a tank increases the % chance a guest will "like" the item, but it doesn't change the amount of prestige. The amount of prestige earned from each item is always the number shown in the menu or when you click on it. Also, each guest is limited to "like" each item once.

So Egg Wracks (no matter how many you have) should always earn you 3 prestige per guest.

If you go to Guest Thoughts it'll say something like:

+6 {P} : I really like that Egg Wrack! (2 guests)

OR

+9 {P} : I really like that Egg Wrack! (3 guests)

So the left number divided by the right number is always 3. (Well, it should be at least!)

But that doesn't mean having more is not better, it is! The more you have of everything the higher the chance a guest will see/like it, and the more different tanks you put it in, the more chances they will have. Of course once lots of guests start complaining that they're getting bored of seeing things, that's probably a sign you have enough.

Hope that clears things up for you, I'm actually planning some tweaks to some tooltips and some extra UI which will explain this better. :)

Does the size of the aquarium matter at all?

Is a small fish in a large tank harder to see?

Not currently, but this is actually something I have/am considering. It could make small tanks more interesting additions in the late game.
