STAR WARS™ Republic Commando

STAR WARS™ Republic Commando

PC compared to the origional Xbox version.
I have played both versions of this game. And I have to say that the Xbox version is vastly superior. The only reason that I can think of for this would be if the Xbox version came out after the PC version and was upgraded in a big way. Seriously if you want to play a great Star Wars game, Republic Commando on the Xbox is simply stunning.

If you dont say us why the Xbox version is better this topic is pretty useless.
Superdude Jun 29, 2013 @ 12:07pm
why do you think it is better?

Can't possibly think about how it could be. Graphics quality of a Xbox can never approach the quality you can get on a computer and the Xbox controller is inferior to keyboard and mouse in terms of accuracy and responsiveness. So, as the above two questioned, what exactly is it about the Xbox version that is better than the computer version?

You know something I played both just yesterday and whilst the xbox version is damn good by console standars the pc version is miles ahead of it.
Yeah, the lower resolution, lower frame rate and lower fidelity graphics version is my favorite, too.

At least console version doesn't have problems with bump-mapping.

That came later. Not the game's fault.

im sure the console version may have less bugs and compatability issues that always frustrate me when it comes to playing PC games that are old. For this reason and the reason that the game is really short and ends on a cliffhanger ive avoided purchasing it again on steam. Id be more inclined to jump right to a sequel which will never get made and if it did it would now only be on origin.

Of course not. But game developer's. Game engine wasn't supposed to support it. But developer implemented it with use of programmer's black magic.
So you know, problems started with the 8800 nvidia card. Just 2 (!) years after release of the game.

I know exactly when it started. I had one of the first set of 8800 gts 640mb cards. But how was the dev supposed to magically predict the future? That's like blaming Bethesda for unified drivers causing Oblivion portals to render through the world, well after they released the game. Blame nvidia if you have to blame anyone.

By not making unsupported feature that can easily be broken by new hardware? You know that this game have problems not only with nvidia cards, right?

And don't even mention Bethesda. This company is well known for their bugs and unstable releases.

I have the Xbox version and just bought the PC one. The difference in graphics is visible by just the resolution fact. But c'mon, this game is all about the gameplay which IMHO is great - regardless the version you got!

I've got one thing to say: 1080p.

Looking at all the glory of 1080p with no shaders. Riiiight.

I think we can all agree that this game was ahead of it's time and is seriously understated. And truthfully I was just trying to get the PC guys fired up. Bottom line this game is great no matter what its played on. I'm glad to see that there is still a lot of support for this gem of a game.
