STAR WARS™ Republic Commando

Slice vs breach
I've played through this game about 3-5 times now and loved every second of it. But in every run I couldn't find a benefit to slicing through doors. Breaching always seemed better since you got a free nade thrown in. The characters say you can take a "stealthy" approach by slicing but it seems just as stealthy as just blowing up the door. Anyone know what's special about slicing?

The primary benefits to Slicing doors are the following:
1. Enemies in the next room having a delayed reaction to your presence, provided you stay crouched and do not trigger line-of-sight or proximity awareness.
2. Possibly fewer enemy spawns in the next room.
3. Automated turrets in the next room either not being activated, or having a delayed reaction to your presence. This last one is the most important benefit.

The main downsides of the Slicing maneuver are if, of course, enemies are right behind the sliced door, as well as one other crucial thing: The door will still functionally open and close, which will block Delta Squad's line of sight beyond the doorway if it is shut, as well as run the risk of Delta Squad's AI getting stuck on the door unless you hold it open for them and use a Hold Position or Form Up command to get them past it.

some areas ai wont be alerted when sliced
the same areas having the ai throw a nade is useless

Oh ok cool. Those last two things sound like they could be good. Thanks.

A better way to look at it instead of a Loud versus Stealth option is an Aggressive versus Cautious option.

Do you want/need to breach that door, get the grenade in, and open up the squad's line of sight to push in and engage, at the cost of having to face just as aggressive enemy AI and maybe more of it all at once?

Or do you have the time to slice the door, wait a few seconds, and maybe have a small time window to get a better idea of what you can do in that room just before alerting the enemies that are still there, at the risk of someone getting stuck on the door if you do not manually order them into that room?

I didn't think about that. That's a good way to look at it and helps me decide which choice might be better. Thanks again.
