[How-To] Play with an Xbox controller
EDIT: As of January 2017, Steam apparently has Xbox key mapping built in. Here's a link to a tutorial: https://www.howtogeek.com/234427/how-to-remap-buttons-on-your-steam-controller/

---

I know some people have asked about a way to play this game with an Xbox controller. There’s this fantastic little program called “AntiMicro” that maps controller buttons to keyboard commands. I’m pretty sure it works with other controllers too, but I’ve only ever used an Xbox One controller with it via USB. Just make sure you open antimicro before you start the game up, and it works like magic. ^__^

You can download AntiMicro here: https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro/releases
And if you want it, here’s my config file for Republic Commando (it assumes that all the controls are set to default in-game): https://app.box.com/s/fuhob546qm2mxe2edhlb4qwqrb0wz19t

My button mappings go like this:

A: Jump
B: Melee attack
X: Use/issue command/etc. (everything the F key does)
Y: Crouch
Left stick: move
Left stick click: walk
Right stick: aim
Right stick click: zoom
Left trigger: throw grenade
Left shoulder: cycle grenade
Right trigger: fire
Right shoulder: (see below)
D-pad: issue commands
>Up: attack & destroy
>Right: form up
>Down: defend area
>Left: cancel orders
Select: quick-save
Start: menu

The right shoulder works like a “shift” key.
RS+A: pistol
RS+B: rifle
RS+X: sniper attachment
RS+Y: anti-armor attachment
RS+Left Shoulder: secondary weapon (pick up from enemies)
RS+Right Trigger: reload
RS+D-Pad Left: switch visor

The right stick (which is mapped to mouse movements) feels a little clumsy, so I still keep the mouse handy in case I need more accuracy. If anyone can figure out how to tweak the mouse settings in antimicro to make it work better, please let me know! ^__^ (or they might have fixed that in the last update, which I haven’t installed yet...)

This config even works for menus (except for when you’re incapacitated, for some reason, you still have to use the “enter” button on your keyboard to select one of the menu options).

Let me know how it works for you!

UPDATE: AntiMicro's download page moved so I fixed the link

The .msi one (first on the list) should work fine

I'll never understand why people download controller to key mapping software when steam already has this exact functionality built in

I didn't even know Steam had that feature. Though it looks like they added Xbox controller support in January of this year, almost a year after I posted this. I'll update this guide, thanks
