Master Fixes for The Blackout Club
If you are running into any issues with the game, please try all the workarounds below to see if one of them solves your issue. Also, please look for any existing threads that might cover your issue before starting a new one. Thanks!

I'll try to correlate fixes for The Blackout Club in this thread so it's easier to find.

NOTE: The game is in Early Access. Thus many technical issues, bugs, etc are likely to exist. The Shape might even come and take control of your PC.

PlayFab Connection Errors

For PlayFab connection errors,

Make sure the game is allowed through your Firewall
Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Defender Firewall -> Allowed apps -> "TheBlackoutClub"

If that doesn't work, try using these DNS servers instead of the automatically chosen one given by your ISP:
https://1.0.0.1/
or
https://1.1.1.1/

Update Your Video Card Drivers

This is a common cause for people's inability to run the game.

It is also important that you update your drivers through software provided by your video card manufacturer or directly from their site. Using Windows or updating software provided by your laptop manufacturer to find more recently drivers is less reliable, as they will likely only have drivers that initially shipped with the product, or will be out of date with the actual video card manufacturer.

Always make sure you reboot your machine after installing the drivers, just to be safe. Then try relaunching the game.

Laptop users should force their Nvidia/AMD cards

Use the Nvidia Control Panel or AMD CCC to force the game to use your built in GPU instead of the Intel one

This guide should help you depending on your video card:

http://www.howtogeek.com/175281/how-to-force-graphics-options-in-pc-games-with-nvidia-amd-or-intel-graphics/

Try running both Steam and TheBlackoutClub.exe as administrator

  • Go to c:\program files\steam\
  • Right click ->Properties on steam.exe
  • Click the Compatibility tab
  • Check "Run this program as an administrator

Then try doing it for the TheBlackoutClub.exe
  • Go to <steam>\steamapps\common\TheBlackoutClub
  • Right click ->Properties on TheBlackoutClub.exe
  • Click the Compatibility tab
  • Check "Run this program as an administrator

Reinstall VCRedist

Go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2015

And re-run both the vcredist_x64.exe and the vcredist_x86.exe

Then reboot your computer

Reinstall Direct X

Yes you have to do this.

No I don't care if you 'have the latest version of DirectX'

DO THIS

Go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010

Run DXSETUP.exe

Reboot your computer

Reinstall UE4 Prerequisite Installer

Go to

<steam>\steamapps\common\TheBlackoutClub\Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us

Run UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe

Reboot your comptuer

Verify the Integrity of the Game Cache

If you have tried all of these workarounds, and are still having trouble running the game, or if there are other obvious missing elements to the game (such as missing fonts), validate that all of the files are actually installed properly:
  • Go to your Steam Library
  • Right click -> Properties on The Blackout Club
  • Click the "Local Files" tab
  • Click on the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..." button

Post your system specs and details about your issue in the Crash Bugs sub-forum

It's important for the devs to know what your system specs are if they are to troubleshoot issue. Try to put a baseline information such as

OS:
Video Card:
CPU:

You can also go to the Steam Client and go to
Steam-Help-System Information

That window has a lot of technical stuff about your system that can help the devs identify things

Also when describing your problem be as descriptive as possible. They'll need to recreate your problem so more details is always better. Adding screenshots can also be helpful in describing visual issues.

Please be patient. The devs are absolutely committed to getting the game working for everyone.

The devs are active in fixing everyone's problems. So definitely post your bugs and crashes and they'll get resolved as fast as humanly possible.

I understand not being able to play the game is frustrating. But please be patient.

For PlayFab connection errors,

Make sure the game is allowed through your Firewall
Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Defender Firewall -> Allowed apps -> "TheBlackoutClub". A lot of users who had this problem have found that it goes through if they turn off their firewall. You don't have to turn it off if you can add it to the whitelist.

If that doesn't work, try using these DNS servers instead of the automatically chosen one given by your ISP:
https://1.0.0.1/
or
https://1.1.1.1/

Note on the PlayFab connection error, if you're running hamachi while starting the game, it will give you the error. Fix is to turn hamachi off before you start playing, I guess the game picks the hamachi adapter instead of my actual network adapter?

Another Playfab Connection Error Fix:
It could be because another program is using a port that Steam needs to connect online. This thread has a possible solution https://steamcommunity.com/app/599080/discussions/0/3561682880016712419/?ctp=2

In addition, this thread has a way to diagnose the problem if the above solution doesn't work.

Stuck unable to move at beginning of prologue after thumbdrive is removed from laptop:
This appears to be an issue if your windows is missing some core media player .dlls.
If you look in the log file and see LogWmfMedia: Failed to load mf.dll somewhere in it then it is likely the culprit.
One place to look is here:
http://support.overwolf.com/knowledge-base/missing-mf-dll-on-windows-n-versions/
this has links to the media pack which may me missing on your machine.

Others have suggested to make sure you have installed all the windows updates available for your machine.

Finally, some have said that you can fix it by installing this update:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3145500/media-feature-pack-list-for-windows-n-editions
depending on which edition of windows you are running.

One problem that I had, that I think you should probably put at the tippy top of the list, is for people to first check if their antivirus has quarantined their game. I've had multiple games get quarantined by multiple different antivirus, such as AVG, Avast, and COMODO. And it can cause multiple issues, such as with Blackout Club, made me unable to look around using my mouse and made me unable to connect to Playfab. And as soon and I removed the game from the quarantine of my AV, everything got resolved.
Not saying this will solve any issues 100% of the time, but nothing else you had recommended worked and only checked my antivirus on a whim.

Session Lookup Fails

This can be caused by having two controllers plugged in at the same time. This has been fixed internally and will be released in the next update (#9), but for now this workaround should fix the problem. Sorry for any inconvenience!

WOOTING ONE KEYBOARD can also apparently cause this. Should be fixed in the coming update also!
