But for visual it looks like the train arrives at the station and then goes back being pulled by the other engine. It is not true, the train "flipped" but it looks that way :-)
I'm not sure if there is plan to make some engines facing backwards AND going full speed in that direction in vanilla game. I believe the game mechanics as they are simply prevent it. But of course, I'm not the boss :-)
As for the setting, the description of "trains reverse at end of line" is misleading.
Basically, it is a parameter which directs train behavior if it needs to go in the opposite direction (regardless whether it is end of line or elsewhere). If this parameter is disabled - the train does magic flip - anywhere and everywhere, when it needs to go back, or when you press the "reverse" button in train window.
If this parameter is enabled, the train does not flip, but starts traveling backwards with the max speed penalty (even those modded backward facing engines). To prevent him from doping so, you must disable the other "reverse" parameters (at station, on steep hill, ...) and build a loop or "Y" shaped track where the train can change directions.
