Anyways, now you build food shops through the town menu. Click on a town center, go to the 'extensions' window, and Food shops will be there if you're in the right Era.
The Farm and the Food Shop both appear in era 5. They appear in the same era since one produces a good, and the other consumes it: food. In the same era, freight cars and trucks that can handle this new cargo also become available.
Farms are industries just like coal mines or oil refineries - they randomly pop up on the map, out in the countryside.
Food Shops exist in cities. A few will randomly pop up, and you can build more yourself; as a town extension (just like a park or pub)
Delivering food to a Food Shop not only brings in a bit of money, but more importantly grows the town the Food Shop is located in. Just like for Passengers and Mail, Goods and Food that are delivered to a city is tracked, and each time you deliver a given amount, the city size increases (making a new house spawn).
You can follow the progress (=how close is a city to increasing its size, and which of the four cargoes is likely to reach its threshold first) in the city information window.
I don't know what exactly this mod modifres, if only wagon_types.XLM, or also the building_types.xml (=if while rebelancing, it is increasing consumption/production of something)
It could be broken so that it doesn't show in the city extension tab, but in any case it SHOULD be available from building menu (=the icon right of bulldozer) - all buildings which have purchasing price will show here. For the shop not to be here, the modder would have to delete the purchasing price from building_types.xml
Removing the flag "town" in the same file will cause the shop not to show up in the city extension tab, but it sill will be available in the building menu.
