When/how does your karma score increase?

Hi,

I've just bought Carcassonne and played a few games, both local and online. However I noticed that some online games have a minimum karma score to play. I read in another discussion post that karma is an indication of whether someone has a history of quitting games early so that they don't lose - or something along those lines.

I haven't quit any games yet (apart from one local game where the AI got stuck placing a tile...) but my karma score is still at 3 out of 5. So I'm wondering how long it is likely to take for me to see this increase?

Do I have to do anything apart from play nice and not quit if I'm losing? :)

Karma is basically a ranking system that goes up when you win games, and goes down when you lose (or abandon). I'm not sure what happens if you draw, I'd expect no change haha

I believe the dots represent your karma score on a scale of 0 to 100; you start with 50 (equal to 2-and-a-half dots) and gain 1 for every online game you play to the end, win or lose. If you abandon the game before it's over, you lose 5 karma. So if you never abandon a game, your rating should go up by one "dot" every 20 or so that you finish.

As you say, just don't quit if you're losing. :)

This is really annoying, but I'm down to one karma: either due to a bug which quit the game on placing a tile and restarted it repeatedly each time, or because I didn't realise go to main menu actually quit the game (because why would go to main menu quit when there's an option to forfeit from the same menu! And an option to RESUME from the main home screen). I couldn't get out of the loop without going to main menu, and I was winning at the time.

Ones a bug and the other bad design.

I've emailed the devs but no reply yet, I want my karma back!
