Carcassone is the digital adaptation of the popular board game. You take turns placing tiles to make a map and placing meeples on the features to try to claim them. The game is over when all the tiles have been placed, and the winner is the player with the most points for claimed features.

The board game is a lot of fun and requires a lot of strategy, and this is translated pretty well in the digital edition. The controls are straightforward and play feels a lot like the physical edition. The art style is the same and none of the rules have been changed for online play. There are a couple of extra options the digital edition allows, like showing field ownership and which spaces can't be filled with any of the remaining tiles, which are nice to have but can be turned off.

The game has AI if you don't have enough human players to fill your game, but even on the hardest setting they were pretty easy to beat. If you prefer to play with real people, there are almost always other people playing, even with a low player count, but it can be hard to find games for more than two or three players or for less popular expansions. There's also a karma system for online games, but it seems to be slow to build and can make finding games harder, as the host can set a minimum karma for the lobby. If players leave, the game will fill in for them with an AI player until they rejoin. However, if the other player just goes AFK, you have to wait out their entire timer before an AI player will take over.

Compared to other board game adaptations, Carcassone is relatively good, aside from a few minor annoyances. If you're familiar with the physical edition, it's a similar experience, and if you aren't, it's a decent introduction. 7/10
