This is kind of besides the point but I set the timer to 35mins in 1v1 and turn off the AI. Whenever someone disconnects, I just alt-tab and watch some YouTube or do something else while I wait for them to resume or their time runs out. There's usually less than 20 mins to wait by that point so to me, it's no big deal and I also put the min Karma to 3 so it's pretty rare that someone leaves and doesn't return. Whenever I host 3+ player matches, I adjust the timer with less time for each player accordingly. I like to give people about 2 mins to play each tile. Seems reasonable to me, especially considering how buggy this game is. Based on my own experience, I've been disconnected or the game crashes at least once in three matches. So less time on the clock (and allowing the AI to take turns) seems to be detrimental to the game in general due to the amount of time it takes to re-launch the game. If they would put a 3-5 min delay on the time it takes for the AI to take over, that would be a different story but as it is, I feel as though this is the fairest approach to all players who join my games.
