Why should baggage claim zone placed in non-secure area?
I thought most of the airports have baggage claim zones before security exit.

Aparently some, airports have them that way. I can't fathom it but I asked this as well.

Alot of airports do it differently. NY Area Airports for example have it outside while several European airports do it on the inside. Eh, not that big a deal.

It makes more sense to me that baggage claims are INSIDE secure areas. We should have the *option* imo to put it in either area.

I agree with having the option - Heathrow HAS a security bit but they never stopped me, so the option would be nice

Also it might help with having pax walking right the way around my airport to my second baggage claim zone instead of going to the one they to go past to get out the airport

Some passenger flow control would be nice.

When I fly into LAX from Toronto, baggage claim is non-secure because the flight is considered domestic--all immigraion and customs is done in Toronto prior to boarding. When I fly into YYZ from LA the baggage claim is secure because it is considered an international flight and all immigration and customs is done in Toronto, so there is a final check before leaving the baggage claim area. This might apply elsewhere: whether the baggage is domestic or international might make a difference in security.

Which reminds me, it would be great at some future date to have a separate international arrivals area in SimAirport with border controls prior to exit.

The reason most airports in the US have baggage claims outside the secure areas is for the fact that alot of Americans fly with items that cannot travel in the carry ons. Like in my case, I sometimes have to fly with my weapon or gear because of work. So in that case it makes more sense to not have a baggage claim in a secure area. Imagine someone who isn't supposed to have a weapon now having access to it inside the airport because they snuck it in with their check in luggage, kind of a bad situation at that point.

I think most airports in the world put baggage inside the secure area to prevent baggage theft which doesn't seem to be a common occurrence in US (or they monitor it closely to prevent such issues from become widespread).

Anyways, I agree there shouldn't be a rule preventing us from placing baggage claim inside the secure area.

in many airports you usually you have two layers. Layer 1 is the inside layer where arrivals and departures are separated into domestic and abroad (clean/unclean in Shengen terms as an example). Layer two is the baggage claim area where domestic and intl arrivals are mixed, but the public has no access.
