Confusion with fuel tanks
So I'm having a little trouble with a fuel tank.

I try and place it beside a taxiway and I get the error "Too close to nearby object (Taxiway)" however if I move it away I get the error that no trucks can reach it and I should place it beside a taxiway.

Without researching Fuel ports how close should a fuel tank be too a taxiway?

You need to connect the fuel tanks to a taxiway with roads.

or put the tanks remotely near the access road and connect them to the fuel ports with underground pipes.

Realistically, no fuel infrastructure *has* to go anywhere near a taxiway. It's just a little more convenient sometimes.

You need four things for a fuel system to work.

1. Fuel depot building. It needs to have road access, so it's a good move to put it out next to the main road outside the fence; it doesn't need to be in the secure area.

2. Storage tanks. Technically can also go anywhere, so put them wherever you have adequate room. Up next to the depot, somewhere inside the fence, it's up to you - but make sure they're somewhere convenient. So as to avoid unnecessary expense, I'd recommend installing them right near the depot.

3. Pipe. This will connect your depot to your tanks, and your tanks to the fuel ports on the gates (more on that in a second). Pipes are installed belowground, which means that without careful planning, they'll end up colliding with your baggage system tunnels. This isn't a disaster, but it can be a pain. Plan ahead and you can avoid most of those intersections. When you can't, it's just a matter of sending your baggage conveyors down a floor (to -2), going under the fuel pipe, and bringing them back up. Note that you can't send the piping down; fuel hardware is always on -1 and no deeper. Some people like routing their fuel pipelines down the taxiways so as to avoid baggage conveyor collisions, but it's not a must - it's really up to you.

4. Fuel ports. Gates don't come standard with these, they're an upgrade. Once you buy a fuel port for a gate, you'll be able to connect pipe to it. So as to simplify things, it's a good idea to place your fuel ports in a straight line down as many gates as you can so you can run a straight line of pipe and connect as many as possible. It's not necessary, but it can make your life easier.

Once all of that is in place, you'll need to order fuel and wait for it to be delivered. And if you thought the infrastructure was expensive, sit down before buying the fuel; depending on how much storage you installed (in the form of fuel tanks) that bill could be steep. Now, you don't *have* to buy a full supply all at once - you can buy as much or as little as you want - but make sure you have enough on hand to fill orders from planes.

You may need to adjust your fuel prices before planes will buy. If you have gas available and nobody fills up after an in-game day or so, you may need to drop your prices. But that's a whole separate conversation. :)

So on my 'first' attempt at building an airport the fuel tank was beside the taxiway without issue and people were buying lots of fuel.

The second build (on the latest version of the game) now seems to have a minimum distance rule that can't have the fuel tank beside the runway, the problem is that it comes up with the error that its not accessible to a fuel truck and to place it beside a taxiway. The fuel truck pops out of its hanger, doesn't do anything for a few seconds and drives back into the hanger.

So are roads (or fuel ports) now a pre-requisite in the latest 'default' build of the game before fuel can be delivered?

i would guess yes i have yet to build one but prob

Yes, there's a 10-tile lockout around taxiways and runways for a variety of structures. You can connect roads to taxiways for transportation when necessary.

Fuel trucks never need to access tanks. Delivery trucks interact with the depot, while airport fueling trucks work with the fuel ports you install at each gate you want offering fuel.
