Queue not working for me

I have followed the tutorial and I still can not seem to get my queues to work. My passengers are not making it to their gates on time because of overcrowding and unorganized. Can someone here help explain to me how to set up a working queue.

Have you assigned the "item" to the queue? For instance, at a gate, create a queue starting next to the gate agent desk and then dragging it out. Then, click on the gate agent desk and assign it to the queue and select the passenger type (either coach, first class, or both) (only works by assigning items to queues, not the other way around).
FYI, you can have multiple items assigned to the same queue. For instance, I use 4 gate agent desks for my XL gates, and I assign 3 of them to a single "coach" queue, and the 4th to a separate first class queue.
Other places I use queues are at ticketing, security and cash registers.

Ok thanks TBFlash. I did not select the passenger type. I just assumed all passengers would just automatically get in line at a queue.
Edit: Just tried it again, and now I am not even getting the selection of passenger types. I will tell you exactly what I am trying to do and my steps I am taking, and you can correct me in what I am doing wrong. I built a gate agent desk one block in front and beside the sliding doors, so the gate agent desk is not in the way of the passengers. Then I assigned the gate agent desk to the proper gate. After that I set up a queue in front of the gate agent desk. Problem is I cant assign the queue to anywhere. I tried the desk...no go. Where do I assign the passenger queue to?

build the gate agent desk. build the queue. Click the gate agent desk and click assign. you should see a box appear on the queue line choose first class or coach or both. you do not need to choose flight crew as they do not stand in line at the gate agent desk.

Edit: Thanks mate :). It worked. The tutorial didnt seem to explain things quite right. Now...to fix the security queue, but I know how to fix that now. It will just take a bit of work to renovate my airport layout. Dang, I love this game.
